I've just thought of the best (worst) idea ever.

Heat signature porno.

Genius!

I really want to see a porn scene taken in thermal now, just to see it.

"I saw porn in infrared. What did you do?"

Can't you also damn rivers by causing a wall to drop into the water via cave-in?
I figured you could always damn a river by channeling out it out all the way into Hell.

I saw this documentary thing with two people having sex in an MRI machine, or something.
Does that count for anything?

Heat signature porno.

You need to see The Operation.

Well, it's more of an experimental film than porn, but it is mostly a weird sex scene, entirely filmed in infrared.

How good are you at coding image processing software? Because tracking moving objects is pivotal to modern video compression and it sounds just like what you need for your project. Just give it an IR camera and point it at your face then have it detect the movements of that heat signature (which should stand out quite bright against the background). Only problem would be if your head get's very close to someone elses (on screen), in which case your bot may get confuzeled.

I'd probably handle that by just having it hold still.

Motion tracking + IR might be a good plan. I sort of wanted a hardware-based solution (although that's probably not a best idea since I'm better at programming than wiring anyway), but if it comes right down to it I might as well just go with a software solution. Or maybe I could just wear a little IR amulet or something.

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

If you're going to do that, you might as well take some sort of radiowave beacon, since that'll go through most things and cause less interference. Plus, you won't be frying your chest ;)

I was talking about the higher (or is it lower...) frequencies of IR that TV remotes and such use.
The thing about a radio wave beacon is that I don't think it'd be very easy to pinpoint my location... I'd probably end up with the same result as if I were using PIR sensors.

50 bucks says that your problem can be solved with 500$ worth of wii remotes.

You could use the IR detector that piecewise posted attached to a gyro/servo and camera attached. At that point it would be a matter of programming the sensor/servo to track the hottest object in the FOV with decisions being weighted with movement.

A simpler way would be to just have an RF tracker attached to the camera/gyro and wear a RF chip as a necklace or bracelet.

Maybe I'm not making as much sense as I think I am. It's pretty late.
