Tracking a human heat signature
« on: May 12, 2010, 02:08:27 pm »

I want to add a sensor to my robot that will allow it to find and track human targets. It's a really short robot too, so it should be in three dimensions.

How should I go about this?

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

Dare I ask why you need a human heat tracker? Make the robot do something nice, like hand out free samples to unsuspecting targets.

Mostly the desroy bit, though searching can be traumatic if done the wrong right way.

That depends. Do you mean 'destroy' or 'destroy?'

Yeah, it's a nice robot that hands out free used buckshot.

Just kidding, it's supposed to be a little camera bot. I just want it to be able to follow me around and point a camera at me.

Sounds cute.
With a thermal camera, you could always just have it go to the hottest location, but that might have... hilarious consequences.
I would suggest thermal working with a motion sensor.
That way it goes to the hottest moving target.
Alternatively, simply carry around a chip that signals out to the robot, which travels towards the origin of the signal.

Hehe, my camera has the multiple target focus ability, and it always focuses on whatever is closest to it, so it has a tendency to point it's focus boxes to people's torsos and crotches.

That sounds like a fun project. Is it currently remove controlled or self-driven?

It's (going to be) based on a Parallax BOE-Bot. Cute little robot. It'll be autonomous.
The idea is that I would just be able to set Cambot on the floor, switch him on, and record stuff while he follows me around.

If the purpose is to create a camera-robot, that sounds fun. For practicality, you could always have a camera in a hat :P

Except that would be first person perspective, while I want second person perspective.

Heat signature porno.
