For real fun value yes. For speed and efficiency? No.

But to be honest, its a skill you can grind up for free with little difficulty. If you take Novice Armor, Shield, and then expert in a weapon you can train your shield use ability to a point where nothing will hit you, then you can unequip your weapon and set combat mode to close to grind wrestling.

So at Embark, No. After training yes. Nothing is more fun that toe to toeing a Mega and gouging out his eyes and taking a horn by force for a souvenir.

Wrestling trains super-fast.  You'd be better off spend points on dodging, or blocking, since those can be life-savers and they don't train as quickly or reliably.  Wrestling skill gains are proportional to the difficulty of whatever you are fighting, so go find a cave, mutilate the local cyclops, and then pinch his toes for a while.  Soon you'll be legendary.

Note that the utility of wrestling is unsurpassed by any other skill and should not be neglected.  It's particularly useful against civilization creatures, since they have lots of joints and gougable bits, and armor/weapons to take.  Also, wrestling takes size into consideration, so wrestling anything much larger than yourself will be difficult.

Also, your friendly neighborhood spiderman would like to inform you that people are just as willing to respond to one thread with a lot of questions as they are to many threads with one question.  :)

I found dodging to be must more important than anything secondary (well, except for blocking) these days. It makes you much safer.

I'd put it in shield user or dodge, then train up wrestling.
I just spent the last half hour performing surprise dentistry on the local elves, before dying of an +alder arrow+ to the eyelid.

Or on a mountain. Once I dropped a few z-levels and broke my neck when I dodged an attack. It was in an old version though, where cliffsides were not smoothed.

Wrestling's pretty easy to train. Once you beat something up to the point where it falls unconscious, you can strangle it to death at no risk to you.

Or you can go wrestle some carp.

Simple strategy I've found works for me:

1. Wear bronze or steel plate armour, have bronze or steel shield.
2. Start with half-decent skill in armour and shield use, dodging too if you want.
3. Find a bronze colossus.
4. Poke it in the shin. You are now a legendary wrestler.
5. If desired, whack it until sufficiently skilled at whacking things and being whacked.
6. Run away. Once it's out of sight, you can just fast travel away.

As a side note, do not bring anyone with you. If it kills them, it might have grabbed items from them and use them as weapons. You don't want to be sliced in half by a suit of bloody bronze chainmail.

back in 40D it was dodge, bite kick and punching as well so it was good to have some.
now don't waste the points, find a bear and wrestle it to death.
just set combat to close combat mode so you keep your weapon on shield to hand.

Wrestling is definetly worth it.  gouging eyes is probably the most effective attack possible for a vanilla playable race. Pinching can decapitate with high skill, and strangling kills silently and without waking the target. Plus you can steal weapons and break arms

Break it's knees, and then hold the button to attack them. Right arrow if they are to the right of you, and all that. You should grab, release, grab, release. I did this for 10 minutes and became a legendary wrestler.
