daemoria - that's some freaky shit you got going there, I love it.

Also posting to watch this thread, maybe even contribute in the future if I can invest a bit of time in figuring this delightful little tool out!

Well, I can't do much with sculptris yet, but I'd say these two turned out pretty good for a beginner.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Try using another tool besides the standard draw and grab tools, mess around with the crease tool, and the inflate tool.

I've done about 2 sketches in Sculptris never used a sculpting tool seriously before it, but have messed around in ZBrush. I was mildly satisfied with this one, when I started I was going for a wood carved tribal idol type thing.

God damn crashes - I had an awesome bug going and it crashed. Then when it recovered it, sculptris was there but I couldn't see anything! I am sad.

to those who were curious, I use Zbrush, and a spot of mudbox. I'm more comfortable in zbrush tho.

This is a exceptionally prepared stack of 3 vertex. It forms the shape of a triangle.

Do you do your base model in z-spheres or do you do it in something like blender or max?

Time for a little bump for some more digital sculpting, as i hope since the last time some more people may have tried those easy and awesome programs like Sculptris and saw how good they were at helping them being creative without having some horrible interface and learning curve to fight with.

Honestly i thought Pixologic had killed Sculptris development, but after nearly a year of nothingness regarding Sculptris development, Pixologic mentionned in zbrushcentral that they were looking for beta testers for the finalization of Sculptris Alpha 6 a week ago.

Since then, as they got enough people applying, they removed the announcement. But the great thing is that we soon will see a new version of the ever awesome Sculptris that even if not updated remains always now a brillant sculpting application.

Meanwhile, here are a few of the digital sculptures i made through the year thanks to Sculptris and Blender :

For all my sculptures, i usually make a base model that has roughly the shape of what i want to obtain in Blender, buy example for the pseudo-dino , i find it much easier to sculpt like this, this was it :

This specific base mesh was created using an early alpha version of a script from Nicholas Bishop that actually function in a similar way to what Zbrush has with the Zsphere, allowing the user to quickly build a base mesh for sculpting.
This function has several bugs, but it's an early alpha so it was expected, but the potential is fantastic for sculptors.

I had some fun toying with GIMP normal map plugin to obtain a nice normal when rendering this monster in Blender :

a Sculptris made Ogre inspired actually by some encounters in Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
Retopology, textured , rigged and posed in Blender :

I did a bust in Sculptris and it lead me into reworking it in Blender to obtain a hommage to Jack Kirby, by making my version of one of his famous creations (click for larger size) :

Looks cool.  I'll try it out.

EDIT:  Holy cow, this is awesome.  I managed to create a fat, toad-looking person.

It's as easy as drawing, really, but like anything it'd be hard to master.  I'll keep playing with it, though.

Thanks OmnipotentGrue.

An older sculpture i made with Sculptris , inspired by some Dwarf Fortress annoying forest neighbours :

Yes, Sculptris is very awesome as an application and not only by the dynamic tesselation concept that create face only where needed (allowing you to have the same details on a 100.000 faces sculptures that other applications need to bring to 500.000 faces to allow such details).

There are many software designers that could get a clue or two by looking at how absolutely user friendly and brillant Sculptris unobstructive interface and handling is.

That's (same as the excellent MyPaint for digital painters) the kind of application that really have the artist free to express his creativity without having to fight an interface or taking a long learning curve because of it.

A new version of Sculptris has been released.
Disapointingly after all the time between the 2 updates there's nothing new in term of tools and functions unfortunately and it's always annoyingly impossible to go back to sculpt after being in the painting mode without losing your whole texture.

There's a "goz" button for those of you that own zbrush, but that serves no purpose for those not having it.

But the main advantage is that this new Sculptris comes with a Window and a Mac version, allowing Mac user to have a native version of that fabulous sculpting application Maybe next time they'll get to Linux too.

There's a few new materials that are of very good quality too , but as it's possible to download or make your own material, you may already use something better for your Sculptris sessions anyways.

Fortunately it's always free, you can download from the new Sculptris website :
http://www.pixologic.com/sculptris/

As a drive test of this new version, i sculpted a goblinoid head from the default sphere :
