Nooo! Not the useful artifact!
« on: May 11, 2010, 08:32:00 pm »

So I just got a secretive mood for a novice armor smith, but he's requesting stone. Problem is, I have lots of stone but he's not using any of it. Should I just sigh and wall him up in his forge or is there something I could do to save him?

is he requesting anything else?
check the items in the workshop and see if he has already collected stone.  If so, then there is another material that needs to be collected.  or he could be requesting blocks.

It says "A drawing of a quarry", so no, not blocks. Plus I just made a stone block.

Also, he's requesting several other somethings, I'll see if I can list them:
at least 2 bones (he already has two stacks of bones)
non-metal cloth (is metal cloth usable in moods? It should be.)
a bar of metal, though I have around 10 different kinds of metal available to him.

Quarry means blocks, but see if you have silk.

I think he needs silk cloth. Secretive and posessed moodss don't tell you which they need.

And quarry means rocks. Blocks is either "blocks," "stacked blocks." or something of that nature.

do you have any non-metal cloth?
often the first thing in the list is not necessarily the one missing.  also, use [t] to check the contents of the shop and see what items he has collected there.

I have silk on the map and am trying to get some cloth made out of it. I really hope he doesn't need plant cloth...

If he does, gather plants in the caverns. Eventually you're bound to get pig tails. Just take it from there.

He may well. Moody dwarfs prefer either plant or silk for moods (sometimes both) but they don't indicate this in their mood prefs for secretive or possessed moods.

But do what Imiknorris suggests. You sholdn't be in THAT much danger... I hope!

Could have been worse. He might have been a useful dwarf like a mason or a metalsmith. To this day, I have not figured out what "strand extractor" does, as my plant processor has no problem extracting thread from pig tails.

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

Because the mountainhomes are swimming in the stuff. They just don't sell it on principle.
