Longbows actually aren't that effective at cleaning up oil spills. Now crossbows, well.

Katanas will cut the oil up into methane.

Yeah, I know I brought this on myself.  If any of you think you're going to get me to close the thread, you've got another thing coming.

I'll admit I'd find that considerably less perturbing, but I'm not going to honor such bullshit all the same.

The notion that european swords are blunt and heavy is rather well debunked.

Quote
"Medieval Swords are neither unwieldably heavy nor all alike - the average weight of any one of normal size is between 2.5 lb. and 3.5 lbs. Even the big hand-and-a-half 'war' swords rarely weigh more than 4.5 lbs. Such weights, to men who were trained to use the sword from the age of seven (and who had to be tough specimens to survive that age) , were by no means too great to be practical."(Oakeshott, Sword in Hand, p. 13)

As far as being blunt is concerned, edges were utilitarian at about 35 degrees to better endure impacts against armor and bone. More than one person has presumed a historical edge blunt after pressing his thumb against it, then lacerated themself to microsurgery when they drew their thumb along it.

And yeah Aquizzar, running over your own archers is just bad form.

Even Aqizzar's wrath can't stop this argument.

Also, Knight vs Samurai arguments on /tg/ are the opposite of interesting.  They're like every other argument on the internet.  Two sides with no interest in actually accomplishing anything trot out the exact same set of arguments and then butt heads until one side leaves or moderators step in.

Even knowing this, it's taking an incredible amount of willpower to say who I think would win (Read: Who I know would win)

There was at least one type of european sword that used a blunt edge and sheer weight to harm it's opponents as good as any sharp sword. The zweihander, I think. Nope, just checked. Not the zweihander.

Well, I only read one thread like that. Maybe they're only interesting when the bullshit arguments, explained absolutely earnestly, are new and fresh.

Why does nobody ever discuss the superiority of Japanese hookers over those from medieval Europe?
I mean, there's a lot to talk about, no?

Yeah, it was called a hammer.
No, it wasn't. It was some positively huge blunted sword that would inflict harm through its weight alone. I just can't remember the name.

I think you probably misheard, I'm not sure how something like that would be more effective than the normal blunt weapons.

Taking the cake for most ridiculous anime inspired made up weapon someone swears up and down is real, though, would be this thing someone told me on Twocansandstring.

they had some interesting tools that I am aware of, including what was essentially an exploding Frisbee (no joke)

Of course, he couldn't cite it, and googling it produces no results.

Exploding frisbees are like hand grenades only far more effective against dogs.

Well, I guess one way to break the dull monotony of internet debates is to make shit up.
