StarRunner- A Forum Roguelike
« on: May 11, 2010, 05:11:31 pm »

I will be running this in theBSF engine.

Spoiler: Backstory (click to show/hide)

I figured it would be pretty fun to be a little ship at the beginning of most space games, and have a little adventure.

You decide how I customize the ship, what kind of ship it is (Merchant, Smuggler, Combat), and what to do.

I will not stop you from doing any action. Whatever you choose to do, you can do.

So, anyone want to start? Choose a ship name and what type of ship you want, and I'll build it and start this game up.

... Smuggler, then?

On a side note, I probably should have included a poll on which class of ship.

Keep in mind a merchant ship could be refitted for a dropship (mercs/security) a smuggler ship could also be a pirate, and a combat ship could be the flagship of a fleet.

The class is just the beginning ship. It will not really affect how you play.

What is the point of a drop ship or a troop ship in this game?

RP purposes mostly. Same thing for the merchant ship. I'll be running the buying/selling. And if you had a dropship, you could make money via heavily calculated dice rolls!

I'd say smuggler/pirate. It's a good blend of combat ability and transport ability, plus possible augments to avoid sensors.

Smuggler. Think of Millennium Falcon.

Alright then, smuggler it is.

We will have a fast, light ship, focusing more on speed than weaponry. Equipped with a twin blaster, it will be extremely weak at first. You will be able to purchase and suggest upgrades.

TO BEGIN:
You start out floating in space above Earth. You have a contact in the spaceport in Stuttgart (The EU became the leading space power in the early 22nd century). You also know that you can purchase Keppler's Best from the Space Elevator station for 500C/Unit

STATS:
1 Unnamed Ship, Jackalope Class.
2500 Credits
1 Plasma Pistol, Close-Range (Fires superheated bolts of helium gas, formed by a micro-fusion cell.)

I shall begin building the ship and will post it as soon as I am finished.

What is Keppler's Best? Do we have information on its prices in other locations, its legal issues (how much jail time if we get caught?), our ship's stats, and police stats?
I vote for the name Coyote.

I say we find some trade agreements back down on earth. Buy some trade goods and set off for the next nearest colonised planet.
Find out whats going on in the local politics, new discoveries and such. Lets look for some adventure.

1 Plasma Pistol, Close-Range (Fires superheated bolts of helium gas, formed by a micro-fusion cell.)
We should duel wield helium/xenon pistols. One arches up, the other down. turn them sideways and SHOOT ROUND CORNERS.

Bump for OP. I was actually quite excited about this.

gravity does not work that way
It wouldnt have anything to do with gravity, at least from my (lack of) knowledge. The idea being that helium is lighter than air, so it rises. I presumed heated helium would rise even faster. Xenon having the opposite effect of the vocal cords than helium, so i presumed it must be opposite to helium and would thus be heavier. Cool it to make it sink faster in air. Shoot both at the same time and one bolt would arch up and the other down. Turn them sideways and SHOOT ROUND CORNERS. But it wouldnt actually shoot round corners, it would still go up/down.

I liked it ¬.¬
