I can not get the trades to go through, I have something like 3.4k worth of mugs to sell, and I have tried EVERYTHING. It does not matter if I sell one mug, or all kagillion of them, all I get is, "I wish I could take so much... But my animals..." Does not matter what I attempt to buy, how much weight is left on the caravan, whether it be -5100 or +10 million. (I'm frustrated so of course I am exaggerating.) I can be making profit, and I can be in the red zone. I have tried everything I can think of =/ so, I am asking, is there any help that can be administered for me?

This may be a dumb suggestion but are you hitting "o" instead of "t"?

I had this problem for awhile until I realized that I was trying to offer stuff to the merchants instead of trading with them.

On that note downtown, if you ever happen to see a elven merchant, I read somewhere that when they unpack, they can unpack for MONTHS. Ditto with packing up. Not only that, but they will lag your game. A fix I ALSO read somewhere is that if you pause the game, go to designations - dig, use the mouse to designate one square of digging, and hold it down, they will pack/unpack in seconds. Then, just undesignate your dig site. Rather good way to deal with it.

that also works for getting rid of liasons quickly.

If they have a merchant with an animal that is standing on a boulder (in the ring of tiles around the trade depot), that merchant CANNOT unpack. You know this is the problem if you smooth that spot and then you can instantly trade.

I've found that no matter how much the elves are carrying, they can trade immediately, so long as all the merchants have reached the trade depot and no boulder is adjacent to the trade depot.

That's presuming my trader stopped boozing in time to actually show up.
