What I wonder is why people didn't even seem miffed about Sins of a Solar Empire doing practically the same thing.  They talked about this huge complex awesome real time 4X game with full 3d space and orbits and everything and all we got was a slightly generic RTS with an unusually large scale, very little base building, and pirates you could sic on your enemies.

*raises hand* I did that. I always say stardock is a huge let down. They hype and then let you down. But nooo, everyone else is rabble-rabble-we love stardock, they care for us-rabblerabble-don't whine about people repeating the same old crappy threads we've already read-rabble-rabble.

I was miffed, think I mentioned that in the last Sins thread on this forum. Felt like a watered down sci-fi rts to me. Stardocks other games are better.

Personally I regret buying it and will not automatically purchase future stardock games but rather wait for reviews. Glad I did that with demigod.

(I do realise stardock is a publisher as well as a developer, and that both the games I mentioned and didn't like were not developed by them)

Sins is not "full 3d space". It has 3d models in a 2d plane.

Thats the point he was making. They claimed they were making a Fully 3D 4X game and we got a 2D RTS instead.

Kay, so nothing new has happened since the discussion thread a year ago.

Thanks for the new thread guise.

Not true, at least one person who has not seen the old spore thread has seen this one.

Same here.

Anyways, I was a member of a spore fansite (sporesite.com).

I was so excited for spore. I thought it would be this epic darwinism simulation, where there would be badassery and not all this kiddystuff with no blood.

I say we make a total conversion!

I liked Spore. It's probably because I didn't pay any attention to the pre-release stuff, though.

"Compatibility mode", dude. If he tries running it under "capatability mode" some terrible thing involving elder gods will probably happen.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Here's another who never saw the fabled OG Spore thread :P

I knew Spore was in deep, deep trouble when they released their "prototype" games a few weeks before the actual release. They were simplistic models of basically the most "complex" parts of the game. The creature mode and the city mode.

Both prototypes were god awful, and the city on in particular, I was like...ok, so the whole city game is basically connect the dots?

Frankly, if they had scrapped the last three parts of the game, and focused entirely on the cell and animal stages, the game could have been great.

And I agree that people were intentionally misled....they only demoed the most visually appealing parts of Spore and said showed nothing about core game play. They knew that if they gave extended demos prior to release, they were going to get slammed.

I personally thought the space prototype was better than the actual stage of the game.

By coincidence, I started it up again just yesterday. Played until city-mode, then created some creatures, and will now probably not be playing it again for a year or 3.

Oh, the disappointment...  :(

I had to laugh at that ridiculously complex particle physics simulator. Sure, it made for good visuals for the cell and space game...but how much effort do you think got wasted on that alone?
