The horse just has its mouth open. And you can see its teeth. And it's proportional to the rest of the horses head. Unless I'm missing something in a huge way?

Aw, pulp fantasy artwork...  I'm not a huge fan so I really don't have much to say on the subject.  He died an old man with a loving family.  I don't see the tragedy.

they say that frazetta MASTERED making flesh (specifically breasts) look soft, pliable, and natural. Compared to his work boris vallejo's looks.. plastic.

Vallejo's more artificial/stylized style seems to have become more popular in the genre in the past few years, though.

I don't like how sleek and leathery it looks. It's like, so close to being photorealistic that the artificiality just throws you off, you know?

Frazetta's style, with its shifting, dark shapes and grainy textues, always felt more alive to me. It screamed "FANTASY" and "IMAGINATION".

I wouldn't say it's stylised. As Fault said, it's attempting photorealism and is sitting on one of the edges of Uncanny Valley. I'd say Frazetta is much more stylised, but also more human in the way it's portrayed. His hints at detail are amazing, whilst he leaves lots of room for the imagination to fill in.
