More movies like Oldboy would be appreciated, simply for the best line in cinematic history.

Spoiler: Oldboy (click to show/hide)

Makes sense in context, not so much outside it.

I'd feel strange recommending anything without knowing more about tastes than I could extrapolate from this thread, but uh. Hrm.

You do sound like you want new stuff, and that means maybe you want interesting stuff. So I'm going to recommend you at least attempt to watch Aeon Flux (the show, not the movie; the movie is completely irrelevant and disconnected) at some point; it's not a movie, but it's a very interesting show, and its creator had some good ideas regarding how to do cinema and narrative and develop characters. If you can get into it, it's really damned interesting, and you can find the DVD box set pretty much wherever.

I dunno what sort of filmes you like, so I'm just gonna look through my collection and post some random stuff.

Planet Hulk: One of the best of the straight-to-DVD comic book movies. Expect lots of rather graphic violence, and some badass fights.

Sukiyaki Western Django: Quentin Tarentino's western style samurai movie. Lots of stylized fight scenes. If you like Tarentino's work or samurai films it's definatly worth a look.

Black Dynamite: A modern day skit at blaxplotation films from the 70's. It's full of hillarious lines you'll be quoting for ages.

The Man From Earth: Excellent conversation-driven film about a group of professors in a cabin. Well written and acted, it's also got an intelligent plot. If you aren't bothered about you'll love this.

The Hole Story and Anvil: The Story of Anvil: Both of them are documentaries. Hole story is about a man who goes to a small town to make a documentary about a hole. It's a lot better than it sounds, trust me. Anvil is about an 80's heavy metal band trying to get back some of the fame and fortune they once had. Easily one of the best films of 2008.

I second that one. Its a little known film that really deserves to be watched

I know you said no B&W, and they're also Japanese, but Akira Kurosawa's stuff.
My favourites:
The Hidden Fortress - peasants find a hidden stash of gold and get caught up in a war.
Rashomon - crazy murder mystery told from multiple points of view.
Seven Samurai - inspiration for the Magnificent Seven.

Ikiru was a good movie, kinda sad though.
Yojimbo and Sanjuro are also good, with, if I remember correctly, the former being the inspiration for A Fistful of Dollars.

Apparently, Kurosawa gave John Sturges a sword after watching the Magnificent Seven.

Joyeux Noël. Although it is more of a Christmas movie it is still a good one to watch whenever.

... Vicar of Dibley...
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, yes.
... Father Ted...
Drink!  Feck!  Girls!  (R.I.P.)
... Fawlty Towers...
BASIL!

I'd just like to state that I have somewhat peculiar tastes as far as films go (or anything, for that matter).  Of the 3 1/2 Quentin Tarantino films I have seen, I liked exactly 0 of them (1/2 because I couldn't bring myself to watch Django all the way through).  I also intend to make a point out of never seeing Synecdoche again in my life, and I regard Gerry as one of the worst films I have ever watched.  If these films appeal to you, I might not be the kind of person you want to take film advice from.

Here are some films that, while maybe not particularly fantastic overall, are some brilliant examples of acting from certain actors.

Spider
Ralph Fiennes.  This was the film that defined Ralph Fiennes for me.  I remember it with every film I've seen him in afterwards.

Sexy Beast
Ben Kingsley.  A rather...  "Intense" character, to put it mildly.  Quite well done, definitely not a Kingsley I'm used to seeing.

Keane
Ahh, Keane...  Damian Lewis performs a very disturbing performance as a very disturbed person...  Lovely stuff.

The World's Fastest Indian
Lovely movie.  Anthony "Hannibal" Hopkins does an absolutely spot-on job of a charming old Australian with a penchant for motorcycles.  Based on a true story.

Note:  The surviving family of the man Hopkins was portraying happened to be present for some of the filming.  Apparently, they nearly burst into tears when Hoplins did his scenes, saying that he was damn near a reincarnation of the fellow.  Quite a statement about Hopkins' acting abilities.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape
I'm throwing this in here, even though it's another one of those well-known classics, and even though it is an excellent movie overall.  This was the first film my parents ever saw Leonardo DiCaprio in, and they quite honestly believed that he, well...  That he wasn't acting.  Quite well done on all fronts.

As far as fake trailers go, that one was less bad than most, until it actually identified itself as "Italian Spiderman". Why the hell would an Italian Spiderman movie call itself "Italian Spiderman"?

Besides, Japanese Spiderman is better, and actually (for some godawful reason) existed.

The guy actually did a ten video Italian Spider Man series, and it's well worth watching.

But he doesn't have a Spidercar.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The Man Who Would Be King
Saving Private Ryan
The Breakfast Club
Old SNL Re-runs (1 Particular season was really good, but which one exactly has slipped my mind, I think it was 5)

Those are some of my favorites, enjoy!

Event Horizon.

NO. Just NO.

Chronicles of Riddick was a surprisingly interesting movie. Not high art, but Vin Diesel isn't annoying. If you ignore some of the fridge logic in the movie and the fact that it's a walking TVTropes encylopedia, it's actually got an intriguing mythos.

David Mamet's The Spanish Prisoner is a great fun mindf**k of a movie, if you enjoy Mamet's style of dialogue. And it has Ricky Jay in a major role, which is an instant +5 zillion cool points.
And in the same vein, Heist is Mamet's take on the "caper" movies that were in vogue after Ocean's Eleven and the Usual Suspects. Plot is nothing spectacular, but the cast (including Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito and Ricky Jay again) has great chemistry and the dialogue is rife with memorable quotes. It's a bit like highbrow Tarantino with much less violence.

I actually enjoyed that film, though I remember it being one of the first films where the studio realised they could get the rating certificate down by shooting all the fight scenes in stuttery jump-cuts where the camera moves more than the action, so you never actually see anything and it's all just a confusing mess.

Good film, though I think Pitch Black is the better of the two.
