Best items for using as weapons
« on: May 10, 2010, 01:45:56 pm »

Whats the most effective item used as a weapon?

So far barrels are extremely brutal, I smashed a childs skull into his braiin with it once.

Heavy ones.  That's about all that matters.

That depends. In terms of throwing weapons, the ranking goes like this:

Fluffy Wamblers>Elves>Dragons.

Two separate threads confirmed this. :D

Maybe we need to figure out which thrown weapons are most effective on which monsters.

For example:

Live Fluffy Wamblers are super effective against Bronze Colossi.
Elf corpses are super effective against Dragons.

Then we work on the list from there.

Ironically, Elf Corpses are super effective against other Elves. Dragon Corpses aren't anywhere near as deadly, at least against elves.

i tried using a hydra corpse for a while, it really did quite badly.

if its heavyness though, im going to add a few lead bins full of lead bricks in my current fort and see how they go when i come back as an adventurer.

and mr discontent, yes, you killed a colossus with a fluffy wamber. but my goodness i see you telling everyone in every single thread on the internt today. i guess it must be a pretty incredible high, but dont wear out your voice yelling about it.

if you must tell more people, go find a forum where nobody knows anything about dwarf fortress or video games in general, and tell them over and over again in gruesome detail. then post us their responses.

Haha, forgive my gloating. I didn't know it bothered you so.

I don't mean to be gratuitous in my horn-tooting, I was just really excited and wanted to share my awesome experience with you all in the adventure discussion. I figured that's where the posts should go. But if it really bothers you that much, I'll be sure to continue mentioning it as much as possible. I wonder if there's a way I could make it into my signature, so you could see it ALL THE TIME.

Thanks for the idea! :D

Is Wrestling still feasible? I think even against those who don't breathe it is as you can rip heads off (I recently had mine rip the head off a Marble Lion-beast thing.)

I know its not suitable for colossi but : *Points to Wamblers*

Afaiknew in 40d Wrestling was very efficient.

I generally just steal a meat barrel from a human town and use it as a battering ram.

Platinum bins encrusted with gemstones holding platinum blocks.

I also like the idea of beating things up with a traction table.

Wrestling in 40d also upped your Dodge. Now that dodge and wrestling are separate, it's lost some of its usefulness. Also, never try wrestling someone who is armed and armored, unless your first move is to take his sword or gouge his eyes. Punches don't hurt through armor.

From arena mode testing when I attempted to create the ultimate unusual weapon challenge I have come to the conclusion that...

Fighting unarmed blows.
Lion corpses are significantly better than fighting unarmed. (somehow managed to kill it unarmed)
Elephant corpses are almost as good as a quality hammer. (Killed it with the lion corpse)
Whale corpses are too heavy and barely dent things. (gravity)

(Yes, to get the whale corpse I dropped the whale from the top of the arena into the deep pit part of the arena.  No I did not have a pot of petunias available.)

Note to self: Kill an elephant.
