if you dont mind raw editing, you can make the boiling pont of the inorganic material very low, then itīll be a second until its just a cloud of forgotten beast vapor:)
just remind to do it in the raws of the saves, not tthe game raws

I've always wondered that.  However my good fort had all the HFS spawn inside the magma sea so no science experiment at this location.

The HFS demons are hostile to EVERYTHING except other demons, including UG critters.

Winged Sand Humanoid wanted nothing to do with it, choosing instead to hang out with his buddy Feathered Weasel in the lake at the other end of the map, but Skinless Arachnosauropod was happy to challenge a Haunt of Steam to a one-on-one duel.

I've had great fun with the Arena blocking off the water exit (lava+water on the outflow square, and anywhere else I want to erect cast a wall) and letting the fortress area flood (and, later on, redesigning the arena definition file to naturally flood without any intervention at all), but if you spawn any of the fire-element creatures (that I tried, at least) and go into Adventure-style mode with them to walk around in the flooded area and clear a space out again.  (Even completely dry the place out if you seal off the river's ingress and keep walking into any remaining water, or back in normal arena mode just encourage them to wander over and attack aquatic non-allied creatures you spawn for the purpose.)

Realistically, the expansion of steam (which already causes you problems moving, although that might be the attempt to move against a continual influx of new water, and definitely appears to cause vision problems, at least in the health indicating page) should do something with the surrounding liquid, i.e. push it out of the way.  But, then again, a creature of fire trying to move through an environment of water should be like someone trying to navigate an arctic ice-flow in a pair of swimming trunks, if it was 'realistic'...

Cages? You can't stun them, you can't cage them.
Sometimes caveins are the only option.

I actually had a giant humanoid made of sphalerite spawn in the HFS my last fortress.  It was immediately swarmed by a dozen or so Clowns, who proceeded to rip it into tiny bits.  It apparently died when its head came off.

Why is drowning it not possible? If water is not good, then magma? Cave-in's? Dropping it into an abyss? Putting it on the outside of your fortress so that it may clean up all those goblins for ya?
