Welcome to... Elderearths, I suppose?[Comunity Fort]
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:02:46 pm »

In the Mountainhomes of the Tool of Peaks...

It's midnight and a lone dwarf sits chained to a desk, writing furiously in an attempt to save his own life. Another dwarf steps out of the shadows.
"I presume you are almost done, yes?"
The first dwarfs jumps and nervously sets his quill down.
"I-it should all be in order...sir"
"Very good"
The second dwarf reviewed the papers.
"I see...you'll be freed shortly"
He then turned to leave.
"Uh, sir?"
The dwarf with his freedom closed the door.
"Lets see just what you were so keen on revealing for that pathetic life of yours..."

My king has funded an expedition to the Hills of Rock in order to build a military base there. All expeditions sent there have been lost and it is presumed that your government  has been attacking them, which is why I was sent here, I've included some important papers so as to better ensure the continuation of my life...

They gray haired dwarf snorted and pulled a lever situated conveniently nearby.
"Damn spies, I can tell already that most of this is false."
There were now screams issuing from behind the door, and the remaining dwarf could feel his back heating up.
"Still, it may be worth our while to organize an expedition of our own..."
_____
A different dwarf sat at a different desk, this time under his own free will. The dwarf who had been interrogating the spy sat across from him.
"Are you sure these dwarves are right for the job?"
"Yup"
"What about supplies?"
"Mmm"
"You don't have any idea, do you?"
"Mn"
"Great... what do you have planned out"
"This"
Some papers exchanged hands.
Spoiler: The Papers (click to show/hide)
"This isn't much information"
"It was the best I could to under such a rush"
"You're getting old"
"I know"
____
So... I decided I'd try this again. Except with a lot more community involvement this time. And hopefully less death. (In the beginning).
So, community...
I need you to name the dwarves and give them skills. And name the fort, and the group. Also what supplies the dwarves will be taking with them.

I'm fully expecting you guys are going to want to bring useless crap just to make it harder for me. =3

I'll take Sodel.

Name: Urist McSpartan
Skills:
Proficient Speardwarf
Proficient Shield User

Make me militia commander, and make my squad use only spears, shields, and helms for armor. Preferably all bronze.

Items: Bring as much cassiterite as you can afford. Bronze is GOOD, and with all the copper we'll have, it's a shame to not have a layer of granite.

Ehh... I'll have to turn off my computer in about 30 minutes, so if nothing else I'm embarking with 6 peasants, a spartan, and a wagonload of cassierite...

Alright, embarking with a wagon of awesome.
___
Everything had seemed fine as the dwarves were traveling along their merry way. The wagon had been going a bit slower than usual, sure, but the dwarves assumed that they were carrying everything they'd need to start a fortress, and none of them knew what kind of strain that normally put on a mule.

When they finally arrived at the given location, they began tearing apart the wagon, as is customary. The stone that spilled out of the wagon was not what they had in mind for founding a fortress on.

One of the dwarves hesitantly identified it as cassiterite, the ore of tin. Some of the dwarves started muttering curses under their breath, others started screaming profanity about it. They all identified tin as a useless metal unless coupled with copper. Copper which may have been surrounding them, but they had no way to get to.

Shorast Bronzeclam said he could try to make an axe out of wood, as his father was a carpenter. Said he didn't know how sharp it would be, but that he would try. Urist McSpartan demanded that he make a spear as well, and being the only dwarf among them with any sort of skills (much less combat skills) Shorast was happy to oblige.

Urist picked up the spear as soon as it was finished, and Kobuk Kinghatchet hefted the axe.
"This should do perfectly"

And it did. Momuz Wavegranite, not wanting to be left out, started picking any plants he thought were edible.
Urist McSpartan, not to be outdone, charged at a wild horse, he was sure he would have killed it too, had it not run away.

As Relickeepers stood smiling in the middle of all the cassiterite. He was fairly sure he knew how to turn this into a pick...

____
Meh, that's all for tonight I'm afraid, but I should also be able to play quite a bit tomorrow...

Krimson Calamity wishes to join the ranks of the spartans, But It can wait for a wave of migraints if need be.  His only demand is a red cape.

Alright, I've added  you guys in and have started playing. The spartans have nothing but training spears right now though. They don't seem to mind...
This is... just... I don't even know.

A pick?
Crazy nonsense. We have to piss of the elves as much as possible by cutting down their trees to make it.

And, you know, buy either a pick or a bar of weapons-grade metal from the dwarven caravan.
