Dwarves, Armok's cushions.
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:27:59 pm »

I just fell five z levels down one of those worldgenned mountainhomes and survived because I landed on a dwarf. Neither me nor the dorf was harmed so I did it again and took pictures

I ready myself for the jump

I use my look tool to spy the ranger below me.

AAAND..

The only thing that happens to me is that I'm stunned.

I propose that this new discovery is used for dwarven cliff jumping or perchance to save melancholic dwarves.
I propose DWARVEN SCIENCE!

This has been known for a while. At least since before Fortress mode kitten-cushion drop pods were devised.

It's still awesome.

I like to put a hellton of chained cats that are the same gender after every cliff just to be sure that Urist McPeasant can jump off, thinking that his life will be over, and BAM he's surrounded by cats and goes ecstatic.
Not sure how the idea of trying to kill yourself and landing in cats would make you happy. But they're dwarves damnit, we'll think of something.

It is very fun to make devices that drop military dwarves from the sky down a shaft and onto an elephant. You can use this as a primitive areal insertion. All of a sudden the gobos are surrounded by stunned marks dwarves.

Has this ever actually happened?  Does it actually cure melancholy?

Does it actually cure melancholy?
No, but it's funny as hell, so why not?
