Editing embark settings
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:57:41 am »

Hi, is there a way to edit the embark settings (points and number of dwarves). I can't see anything in the data files, so I don't think so, but I thought I'd ask here in case. The guy who embarked 40000 cats for the Nuclear catsplosion must have done something to these settings.

Cheers,

Christian

Embark points can be changed up to 10,000.

It happens during world generation. Create a world with parameters and change embark points to your desire.
or
Go into data/init, open world_gen and change [EMBARK_POINTS:1274]

As for number of dwarves... there does not seem to be any way to change it with just the data/raws.  ::)

Thanks.

PS: I want to try a game with few starting dwarves... just because.

Also you can change the material values in inorganic_metal/other/stone.txt.  If you change the material value for any given material from (for example) 20 to -20 (or -4000 if you want), then buy items made out of that material in the equipment screen of embarking, that will give you additional points to use, however as far as I can tell, the actual points available for dwarf skills are limited.

If you have a world you already like, or want to give a dwarf more than 10 skill points, you can use a memory hacking tool such as Cheat Engine, but that might take a bit of getting used to. If it's not a big deal, regenerating the world is likely much easier.

As an aside, I believe the forty-thousand you're thinking of was the body temperature of the cats, rather than the number of them.

Just because that tamed alligator killed someone earlier doesn't mean it wouldn't make a great pet now.
