Not sure this has been suggested (I've been reading this forum daily for almost a year, but threads still pass by!), but would it be possible to implement an in-game toggle to turn off, say raw stone and other objects when viewing your fortress to see things that might be obscured by them?

As miners drop lots of stone, sometimes it can obscure stockpiles so you can't see how many barrels are stored there.  I know I could designate all that stone for dumping into my "metapile," but that can be tedious and sometimes I just want to take in how full my stocks are at a glance.
