I'll probably try and purchase it just prior to making version 1.3.  I want to make sure they really are going to keep developing it for the next year, and are not just saying that to get my money (and then dump the game like Nobles over magma pipes).

Just sent my thanks to Cephalo.

I doubt it'll come to that, EurchreJack.  Sins of a Solar Empire had patches/expansion packs going for over two years; so I'm not too worried about the game being dropped like last years Christmas' Fruitcake.  :P

As for what they're saying about everyone getting the first expansion free by the time the 1.3 patch comes out, it'll probably be six months or later for the devs to get that far, so I'm not too worried.  Even I may be able to really buy the game before that time.  8)  Especially if the price drops between now and then.  ;D

My biggest complaint?

They still want me to pay 50 bucks for this game right now.

I still can't finish a game. Ever (Out of Memory error, savegame unloadable.) I still encounter NPC's having negative 2 billion gold during trades every game.

Look, I can at least understand that the memory leakage might take some time to fix, but the negative gold bug? Seems like a very easy fix.

But honestly, the fact that they still want 50 bucks for it is insanity for me right now. I've been hoping they'd lower it, ever since it launched, because of it's current state. For me, that would be the defining moment of Stardock doing right by gamers. Until they do that, I don't care what Brad says. It's no revelation to me that they will continue to support it, that's something Stardock does (much to their credit, I still play GalCiv2 all the time.) I'd be willing to pay less for an unfinished game.

Expecting me to pay full retail price for a game that isn't finished?

That strikes me as complete and utter bullshit.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Calhoun, I never get that gold bug, but I"ve seen it reported before.  Something where the patch isn't installed properly, so you have to make sure that its put into your install dir right.  As for the memory leaks, I haven't gotten one of those sense 1.05 came out.  What is your computer config, if you don't mind me asking?

Don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but a former Civ 4 modder has created an awesome app for making random maps.  What you end up with is 100x better than the default maps:

So basically, this guy in a couple weeks did a better job. /sigh

Give the guy more credit than that...the game was only out for about one week when he released it.  ;)

"The guy" is a very famous mapscript maker. And if you examine Civ4, DF and this script, he uses similar functions to generate the landscape, and he developed them through many years. I don't think I lie if I say that he has more experience with the mapmaking than the whole Stardock. So yeah, he did a better job, but it only means that Stardock didn't hire a good mapmaker.

$50.00?  I bought it new for $29.95.  Amazon is your friend.

I'm not going to blame Stardock for being unable to match Cephalo in map generation.  The guy has had years of experience doing this stuff, and even pwned Toady One (at least in this respect).

Well you can think of it as pre-ordering and being in the beta-release. (Though personally I'm waiting the year 'till it becomes a good game)

So despite mixed reviews I bought the game. Why? I like helping to refine the development of a game. This is very much like a beta and paid betas are here to stay I am afraid.

Sad times indeed.

More information than you could ever want on my PC.

I am pretty sure that one of the early patches didn't install correctly, but I did re-install it after I noticed. It reports the version it should be.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, who knows? I'm going to shelve it for a while though, (deleted it just about an hour ago, actually). So maybe that problem won't occur next time.

Well you can think of it as pre-ordering and being in the beta-release. (Though personally I'm waiting the year 'till it becomes a good game)
So what about the people who DID pre-order it? What about the people who played the Beta?

It just strikes me as very wrong. I can think of it that way, but that's not what it is.

Everyone here who's pissed off can easily just make a fantasy mod for Civ V. It's Lua too!
