Goddamnit, the refugees DO breed like cats.

Speaking of the refugees, after the arrival of the forgotten beast I had the cavern opening closest to the refugee camp sealed shut. Not that it matters much, but maybe it'll give them time to hide in their perch.

There's also a bit of bad news. There isn't enough food. I've got three planters working, putting every spawn back to the ground as soon as we get them, but we're still surviving on vermin. There may be a few deaths before the farms will produce enough.

EDIT:

Managed to get everything ready for Seth. Here's what he grabbed, looking forward to it.

I must say that this 'body part' thing is a vast improvement over the goddamn shells that were always killing off my craftsdwarves.

EDIT 2:
And here's the result:

I'm gonna put it in his room.

Actually, I misspoke. Shells are still needed, they're just labeled as the same thing as bones. It serves no purpose other than confusing the player.

Oh well. Can't have everything.

So I've been digging individual tombs for every dwarf in the fortress proper. Basic 3x3 rooms, with a masterwork coffin in each one (thanks Brak!). I'm currently engraving them, and boy do we have a lot of pictures about elephants killing dwarves. They mostly feature Webmarkets the Language of Finding smiting and stomping and being generally loveable, but occasionally some of the other famous skeletal elephants make an appearance. There's also a good number of pictures of humans taming jaguars. Go figure.

Brak had another spawn.

I'm going to have to move them to bigger quarters.

In unrelated news, I've halted the food production for the fortress proper. They're drowning in the stuff. They have enough prepared meals and booze to last about a decade. Funny considering the situation just a few levels above.

In anticipation to the famine, I'm building a catacomb for the refugees. They need individual tombs or they'll wind up being assigned to the general tombs in the fortress proper, but since there's no path between them they'd end up rotting in the dining hall. While I don't really care what happens to the refugees, I would rather not intentionally cause a tantrum spiral.

I was wondering how Seth was doing when I was reading last night... and here he is building a sweet door.  What's his profile like?

Also, those elephants would be useful war animals.  Lotta meat on them bones, too.  Just sayin'.

Sssh, don't tell anyone I showed you her profile. Everyone else would want their profiles shown, too. And I'm far too lazy for that.
And it's a her, by the way.

She's the only single left of the original five chicks.

EDIT: Eugh, a refugee was possessed. Some nobody. Wants glass and leather, among other things. I'm tempted to intentionally fail this one just so I can get the refugee headcount down. I'll think about it tomorrow.

a lot of pictures about elephants killing dwarves

Oh god, it's like Boatmurdered all over again.

So we got monsters above, monsters below, dwarves in the middle and a party in the dining hall. Sounds good to me.
If all else fails, remember one thing:  kittens are delicious, nutritious little goblin-baiters, cavern explorers, and ambush-finders.

I just have to laugh.  Famine has come again, and the next post made after mentioning that announces the birth of another baby... this one again incredibly skinny.  I know I'm the only one affected by that coincidence, but still!

On a sidenote, good luck with the deadly blood beast.  The way shed blood spreads...  don't hurt it.  Just don't even scratch it.  :'(

Give it sacrifices and wall it away in some oubliette, where it can be unharmed forever!

I'm not sure what to think. The refugees took that bastard down.

There were some casualties, and I'm damn well checking every single dwarf for bloodstains. Everyone who came in contact with the blood will be sent to exile.
I'll give them one of the picks and some seeds, I'm not a monster.

So soon the refugees will be exiling their own.  Fitting.

One of the cows got infected as well. So far the symptoms are numbness and loss of consciousness.

I'm migrating the refugees. We can't stay here.

Chain the cow, and wall it around. Do the same with Grunk, but leave him some food and booze.
We won't be abandoning unless we're sure this is deadly. It probably is, but hell, after they die all we need to do is to keep the barrier up.
