Huh? Why would I do THAT?
Let it some filthy foreigners?
NEVER. THEY CAN STARVE, THEY CAN ALL STARVE FOR ALL I CARE.

So you wall them in, wait till they starve, and *then* dig up to the surface where they walled it off.

There's nothing to fish in the surface either. This is a terrifying jungle.

HUZZAH! FIXED THE MOST ANNOYING BUG EVER!
The refugee camp had stockpiles and stuff to put in them, see. I've been unable to get any hauling done in the actual fort while the old stockpile orders were clogging the job list.
Fixed now. FINALLY.

EDIT: Another lesson learned. Splitting the dwarf population completely like that, doesn't work. Don't do it.

Did you use Burrows???
With Burrows you can. They would only use the Stockpiles thats painted under their burrow...

It's a known bug with the job manager. Burrows might've worked as a workaround, but I'm not sure.

I don't use burrows as permanent assignments. I use ad hoc burrows all the time.

No, burrows don't help.  I'm running a massively burrow based fortress right now, and I literally couldn't get them to move items for half a month because they had tasked items in another burrow to move, because the destination was in their burrow.  Basically, if there is a destination in their own burrow, they dont care if the source is somewhere outside of their burrow.

It's annoying, but I have gotten my dwarves to "mostly" be ok, by breaking their paths.  They still somehow get the occasional crazy idea about stuff outside their burrows, but they usually get work done.

A bit of a snag. I have no other usable metals besides adamantine. I've found some cassierite though, so I'm hoping I can find a bit of copper and get at least bronze gear. I don't think I have enough adamantine for a fully geared squad.

FB count is eighteen, at least. This is madness.

Ore status: none. Outlook: bleak.

Also, Lapse is melancholy now. I'll post funny pictures of his suicide when he gets around to it.

EDIT: Oh and one of the flying forgotten beasts in the surface.

This is awesome. You should be able to find ore just about everywhere. What rock layer(s) are your dwarves living in?

On the surface. Killing everything in sight. .... Aaand it's one of those winged snowballs.

Don't get me wrong, I've got plenty of ore. Just nothing that I can use to make armor or weapons. No copper or iron, just sphalerite, galena, cassiterite and silver. Oh well, at least I can make armor out of silver. Our weapons will be adamantine.

EDIT: On more careful examination I find that most of what I thought was silver is actually galena. Not all though, but the deposits that do exist are a little inaccessible. Mostly around the first underground cavern. I'll have to dig around.

Meh? Galena makes silver.

I- Oh, so it does.

For some reason I thought that it makes lead and zinc. Oh well, all the easier then.

Well it has a chance to make lead as well when you smelt it, but yeah, mostly silver.

The armor should be made out of adamantine while the weapons should be made out of heavier materials (such as silver).

I also noticed that you can't in fact make armour out of silver. At least according to the wiki.
