.. and its not blood =/

My animals and dwarfs are steadily dying from some kind of infection that rots their livers, animals get blisters in addition. The only symptom my dwarves give is starting off faint then turning pale, again with their liver's rotting at the same time. It seems dwarven medical science has no answer or diagnosis for this (or my chief medical dwarf is fail). Can someone tell me whats going on?

Kill any forgotten beasts lately? Their blood may have infected your soldiers, and slowly spread through your fortress.

Best you can do is wall off the sick dwarves and keep the ones left from the contaminants.

Well, it started off after I killed a Giant.. not sure if thats classified as a forgotten beast?

Hi!

When the giant came, did you get a message box in the middle of the screen? If so, did the message box say anything starting with "Beware of"? Because that is the warning you will get for forgotten beasts with some special attack, special feature.

I have not heard of anything like that and I don't think the game has Hepatitis implemented yet (^_^;;

Nah... did you have and strange human representatives lately? Sometimes they can be demons, which may have some sort of dust coming of them that poisoned your dwarves.

Here is a post on another forum showing a similar effect with "deadly blood". Due to the way blood and poisons get tracked around, it doesn't take much to hurt an entire fort.

I believe the popup said something about deadly dust...

edit: went back into the announcements, doesnt say that, only described the Giant's appearance being human-like.. that dust thing was probably from a different forgotten beast, I think i remember that the one with the deadly dust was a creature made of water, lol

That forgotten beast with deadly dust never had access to my fortress, only in a cavern where I had walled off access

anyway, I have quarantined dwarves with the worst infections, and it seems to have slowed if not stopped spreading, however many remaining dwarves have rotted livers now, so things will not be pretty in this fortress for a long time. If there were goblin civs in this worldgen, I would be in trouble at this point.

Going with the contamination theory, the forgotten beast may have messed up some critter in that cavern, leaving behind some deadly dust and your eager looters have then waded through the dust and picked it up. At least, that would be a possible explanation.

Nope, it was walled off before that forgotten beast came in, didnt crack it open since it came. and the Giant came in the map on the surface near my entrance, where it was promptly dispatched by the first 2 axedwarves to get there. So far I've found it odd that only one of the soldiers sent against the giant has died from this however...

Dwarven livers obviously process non-alcoholic beverages.

So they'll never be able to drink water again.

Which will be a problem if they suffer from injuries, such as rotting livers.

Mmmmhhhh, I suppose then something else must have caused that disease.

Unless, and I hope I am wrong, this is the re-appearance of another bug. There had been cases in older versions, where piles of turtle shell suddenly appeared in a corner of the surface map, having teleported from somewhere else on the map. I don't recall the exact details of that, but I think it got fixed. However, if something like that happened, it would explain how the contaminant got out of the walled-off region.

Come to think of it, there have been reports that weapons have actually acquired deadly coatings from previous battles. I wonder if this could have been involved in some way...
