I was wondering which everyone prefers...The way where if Dwarfs were hungry or thirsty or whatever they would then immediately eat/drink/whatever or the new, "don't stop 'till you drop" mentality of the Dwarfs in DF2010. I kind of like the old way because it's annoying to tell my Dwarfs that they can't do any jobs (disabling all of them) to ensure that they'll eat. Plus, with the new way, I get waves of Dwarfs who have to all stop working to eat or whatever...

I prefer the old way. The new way just makes them work slower and with less skill (legendary miners start breaking stone and such.)

I kinda prefer the new way myself, (and I voted that way)  But it could still use some work.  Maybe reduce the bad thought for minor hunger and thirst while increasing the bad thought for starvation and dehydration.  Also make them not quite as obsessive about their work.  Right now they seem to wait until the last few ticks before they reach starvation before they stop work and usually end up starving or dehydrated when they reach the food stockpile.  Maybe if the stop working point was at the halfway point between hungry and starving it would work out better.

So basically I feel it is a step in the right direction, and I like it a little better even in it's current state.  But it could still use some tweaking.  Especially in jobs where the worker constantly work without stopping, like miners woodcutters and engravers.

I think that I would be happy with this if it were to happen.

I agree with Greiger.  It seems a bit odd at the moment that creatures fond of industry keep working themselves into a dehydrated fuss when there are hundreds of barrels of booze just down the hallway.  :)

I think this poll is premature because I think the current method is somewhat bugged, or at least a little too aggressive as far as Dwarf dedication to their labor. I expect this will be 'rebalanced' after major bugfixes.

I also think that the future intent is to allow civilian dwarfs to carry around food/drink like military dwarfs currently can, but don't quote me on it.

I prefer the old way for miners, engravers, and anybody working a workshop on repeat, but the new way is useful for dwarfs that are doing a non-insane amount of work. I just hope the system gets refined soon, because it's still very rough.

When it crashes the game, its a bug, when it causes mass homicide, its a feature.

I would like the new system more if they didn't bitch that they were hungry/thristy when it was their choice to not go eat/drink.

well....its clearly your fault...I know when I'm working and I get hungry im angry at my boss...cause I know its his fault so =P

I wonder how well a timed meal system would work. eg. dwarfs set a time to eat meals (breakfast lunch and diner) vs eating only when hungry. Of course the amount they eat and all would be based on personality and likes

I would like the new system a lot more if the dwarves went to the stockpiles a bunch earlier so they don't become starving/dehydrated by the time they get there.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Hi!

I don't have a problem with the new approach (I don't have a military). Sure, my dwarves run around with the arrows, but other than that, it has no really ill effect on them. They still behave normally and don't fall into obsessively long breaks or anything, so it is not causing any trouble (I have never had a dwarf work until they die).

This said, it is nice to see that the dwarf who starts a job is likely to be actually also the one who finishes it - today!

This is not to say that the balancing could be improved, but even as it is now, I like it.

Definitely prefer the new way, once a few of the kinks are worked out, like Greiger said. Dwarves on continuous, queued, or repeated jobs should finish the job they're on and take a break between jobs if they're drowsy/hungry/thirsty

I am rather fond of the fact that it makes it harder to keep dwarves happy, it just needs some more balancing and priority tweaking.

I don't like the micro-managing of the new method - I keep having to cancel jobs and manually kick dwarves to go drink, eat or sleep.

I wonder how many of the people who voted for the new one realise that hunger, thirst and tiredness penalise your dwarf's skill levels?
If I'm not checking my legendary miners/armoursmiths/etc. between every tile/job, one of them will get tired or hungry or thirsty and waste ore or produce fine quality instead of masterwork.

It's not much when you lose some magnetite, or a copper bar... but if it's a star ruby or some adamantine then it's a real frustration.

I've had a brewer die of dehydration because he's too busy making beer to drink any of it - that is just dumb.
