Aaahhh.... these colorful roads are hurting my eyes. D:

But it's really nice fortress, I like how it grows bigger and bigger the deeper you get. And these circles on bottom level - looks neat. :)

That looks pretty awesome. Gives me neat ideas for my new fortress.

Hi!

I want to ask you for a favor: Could you please upload the map of your fortress to the Map Archive:

http://www.mkv25.net/dfma/

It is much easier to look through a multi-level fortress using that site and thus gives us a better impression of what your fortress looks like.

Neat radial setup!

That's a fairly win embark location.

Hi!

That is very odd. I have just tested export, and it worked quite nicely for my young little fortress:

Mmmmhhhhh, are you in windowed or full screen mode? If you are in windowed mode, could you try pressing 'F11' once (toggles to full screen mode), export the local map again, and then press 'F11' again to return to windowed mode? That would be the only hypothesis I have about your inability to export maps (^_^;;

that didn't work.  im using 40d19.  bay12 admits export local image has been broken since d16 but everyone still posts on dfma and no one will tell me how.  i have been asking forever :(

Hi!

Okay, I have not played the 40d# series as I was not that experimental.
However, as far as I know, the only difference between 40d and 40d# were the changes in the way the game used the system software to display its screens. So, saves from 40d and 40d# should be completely compatible.

Unless I am mistaken, you can then simply download 40d and install it into a different directory. Then simply copy your fortress over into 40d, run it under 40d just long enough to make the export, and you should be all set to go.

Mind you, this is just based on what I have heard and not verified by myself, but that would be my best guess.

the thing about the colorful roads :P i just told my masons to make blocks.. and one or two of the road sections are actually iron.  anyway i would have specified all mud-stone blocks if i could because its EVERYWHERE.  Anyway this is my first real fortress and i have it divided into distinct districts using z-levels to keep relavent stock piles near by.

My worst problem was trying to encrust my furniture with gems but all i got where encrusted rock mechanisms XD

Hi!

A very elaborate and nice design. You have built a lot of roads on the surface.

The central chamber is a nice idea as is the round throne room, although I personally prefer a rectangular throne room :) :) :)

As for encrusting/decorating furniture:
You have to make use of your stockpiles efficiently:
1. Have one dedicated stockpile as the closest furniture stockpile to the workshop where the decorating is to take place. Note that z-level changes count as 1 tile regardless of real distance, so a stockpile 1 z-level above or below the workshop is always the closest.
2. When creating that stockpile, make it a custom stockpile setting the custom settings so that it only accepts the furniture you wish to decorate (be as specific as you can).
3. If the furniture is in a different stockpile, 'q' that different stockpile and disallow that furniture type.
4. Wait until the furniture has been hauled to the destination.
5. Order the decorations.

I am currently not sure how the priority goes, so if you are worried that the first item could be randomly picked, do the following in 5.:
Quote
Cut green glass
Encrust Furniture with sapphires

That is, before the first decoration order, have the workshop do something else that does not involve decoration. This way, the dwarf will be in the workshop (most of the time) before she starts on the decoration job, thus definitely making the dedicated stockpile the nearest one.

Once you have done all the decorating there, you can change the settings for the stockpile for other tasks.

Anyhow, that is really an interesting fortress with a lot of circles indeed. Thank you for sharing.

BTW, you didn't put any roofs on your surface buildings? Or did you just leave out that level in the maps as there is nothing else? (roofs on surface buildings are one of the few things you should no longer do in 31, so it is one thing I would be envious about :) )

Hi!

You are playing 40d#, right? Then you are fine.

In 31 (or 2010), blood is spreading extremely, with a single little pool of blood where someone cut themselves during dinner over time covering your entire fortress in a neverending sea o f blood. Once dwarves are covered in too much blood and vomit, they will take some time off to go and clean themselves (effectively dumping that blood next to your water source), so the more blood you have in your fortress the less your dwarves will work.

The only thing that can stop that tide is the dwarves' "clean job" which removes a 3x3 area of blood/vomit/whatever, but it is rarely executed and will not be done in above ground locations. Above ground locations are only cleaned by rain drops hitting the tiles and removing all the blood that is in that single tile that got hit. Roofs will prevent rain to reach the tiles, so there is no way to get rid of the blood except for using outside programs/tools.

I found out the hard way having built my dormitory as a surface building in one of my first 31 fortresses. After a while all its tiles had several pools of blood, and every dwarf made it a habit of going to clean themselves after every time they slept. Sure, it was kind of neat to have them take a bath after waking up, but it sure ate up productivity :) :) :)

But that is a problem not in the version you are using, so don't worry.
