First artifact of this fort: adamantium sacrophagus, with adamantium decorations and spikes, etc.
(it was later used to collect the remains of a FB-slaying cat)

The thing is worth several millions.
Fort worth goes up by a factor of ten.

Next artifact? Jewelers workshop? Okay, I brace myself for the next cool thing...

"This is a perfect Peridot. It is encrusted with Peridot."
Worth a whole 48 000.
Kind of a let down.

Well valuable artifacts greatly drive up fort value so artifacts with low value might be a good thing...

Anybody experimented with destoying artifacts already?

Bad idea unless your artifact-makers are already dead. Where 500 happy = Ecstatic, destroying an artifact kills 1,000 happy.

The amount of malice in this thread is actually causing me some concern. I mean, chaining up mothers and forcing them to breed, just so we can drown their children to harvest their organs? Does this strike no one else as absolutely horrific?
You misspelled 'hilarious'

Heh. That gives me an idea : pile all of your artifacts and masterpiece items in a collapsible room, engrave the walls, floor and roof with masterwork engravings and finally collapse the entire room when you have a large enough quantity of items stockpiled. Sit back and watch as the screams of insane, gibbering dwarves echo through the corridors of your fortress.

Artifacts are supposed to be indestructible. Plan of mikefictiti0us still can be done, just use masterwork everything.

I got a flint door, called The Noiseless Odors.

Best thing about it was the name *snicker*

This is an oaken bracelet.  All craftsboldship is of the highest quality.  On the item is an image of a willow in oak.
I hated this until I saw what the name, The Sad Wood.
Clearly one of my kobolds had an inspirational idea for a willow bracelet to be covered with bones of various species and engraved in a thousand different ways, but when he went to the woodpile, all he could find was oak.  This was his response.

If I'm right you can at least drop a bridge on them or trow them into the big holes in the spoilers or drop a cave-in on them.

I just got a pine bin, worth 3600, which I think is pretty atrocious. It has an image of a diamond on it. In pine. And an image of a dwarf, in pine also. So it is a pine bin with a few etchings. I think that 3600 sounds pretty steep for it really.

That isn't too bad in 40d, and in 31.XX it's pretty good. BUy some arrows and oyu can put it to use, wither in a trap, or (in 31) on a dwarf.
