Well one thing that I do is just listen to music. I get lost in it and I stop feeling almost anything but its different for each person and still its best to get professional help.

I was going to suggest playing Dwarf Fortress, but then I realised using the term "murder simulator" sort of applies literally to it.

What worked for me: Bottle it up inside and never show any signs of anger or talk to about it for weeks. Then, snap, lash out and break someones arm, and continue with life.

And the cycle of life goes on.

Well, on the plus side, I have mastered anger. It is kind of like breaking a vase so that you can reinforce it with two inches of steel.

Seriously, venting out anger on bouncers works wonders.

No, it teaches your subconsciousness that anger is bad, in a fairly Pavlovian way.

Channel it out on good things. For god's sake don't keep it pent up. Everyone gets angry, but the ones that kill are the ones who keep it in. That's why you see so many quiet, innocent-looking people in jail.

If you feel angry, release it. If not at the person you're angry with, at someone else. Lol, teaching yourself that anger is bad is only going to make things worse.

I'm not a qualified psychiatrist, do not listen to me.

Psychatrists peddle drugs. Psychologists find ways to vent anger.

One survey in a clinic had this question

I get angry sometimes:
True
False

Physical activity.  It makes you too tired to think about killing anyone.  Seriously, work yourself to exhaustion every day (or at least a few times a week, and the muscle pain will keep you docile the rest of the time).  I'm planning on starting a vegetable garden when I get older, for this very reason.
Actually, if he's a young man, then constant physical activity will just make him big and muscular along with increasing testosterone and making him more prone to anger. Bad combination.
Catharsis (letting it out by beating stuff up, etc) isn't the way to go, as I've read at least one study that suggests it just makes you more prone to act violently.

Then again, bottling it up is no help either.

Talking about it should do something for you. And a therapist may be able to give you techniques for dealing with it when you get angry.

My advice would be, if you're thinking about something that makes you angry, STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. Go do something else, distract yourself in some way, but simmering and stewing and visualizing is not doing you any favors.
You're right. The entire idea of catharsis has been debunked and actually only makes things worse.

Personally, what I do when I get angry at someone is let out that anger in a non-physical way. This normally means telling said person, with a completely deadpan face, the things which they will find the most mentally damaging, frightening, scarring, blasphemous, sacraligious etc. It's immensely amusing to me and almost always defuses my anger.
