In evil biomes you will probably encounter undead.

Its the same local wildlife, just in zombie or skeletal form.

If its just zombie hoary marmots its no big deal. But zombie whales or elephants? You're screwed.   :o

Boatmurdered.

One fortress.

One evil biome.

Thousands of skeletal elephants.

Boatmurdered didn't have skeletal elephants. It had skeletal dwarves. Skeletal dwarves that didn't actually move. Because they were rotting.

I doubt anything interesting happens in a Joyous Wild. I embarked in one in my current fort just to see what was there. I've got a few fairies and some non-aggressive slugmen and snailmen wandering around. If it weren't for the kobolds and the caverns, I'd have nothing to kill.

(I wish snailmen dropped shells when you killed them. I've lost two dwarfs in moods due to lack of shells.)

Good biomes can get a little boring after a while. Snailmen, slugmen, and fairies. Sometimes unicorns, but generally nothing much will actively attack you.

Evil biomes hate you and will try to kill you.

Also if you are in an evil biome, not only will the above ground wildlife be skeletal/undead, but the stuff in caverns will as well!  :o

Zombie cave crocodiles and skeletal cave dragons!

Have fun.  ;D

There are unicorns (because of the good alignment), and giant eagles, giant jaguars, giant cheetahs, etc (because of the savagery).

It would depend on the type of biome... a joyous wilds desert could still have giant scorpions.

Zombies in the underground make large miasma clouds, so often you can't see where the creatures are, or how many of them there are...

That's why I went to the Joyous Wilds. I really wanted unicorns but I haven't seen any in the four years I've been there. Just faeries, slugmen and snailmen. A few buzzard too, but they were torn to shreds by my weapons traps. I was disappointed because this was the only joyous wild in my current world that doesn't have an aquifer. There are lots of sinister and evil biomes in the world though...

It also depends on what the Biome actually is (various forests, desert, swamp, mountains, etc).  I believe unicorns show up if it's forest or shrubland.

Hi!

Strange, as far as I can tell, 40d actually had unicorns become less blood-thirsty. In earlier versions, they were really out to get some dwarven stew, though. I recall that fortress with those many engravings of laughing unicorns and pleading dwarves (shudder)

But I have no story to share, and my current fortress is not in a special biome.
