War animal, combat boost?
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:38:32 am »

When a tame animal is trained into a war animal, does it become a better fighter?  Or is war-training strictly a way to assign specific animals to specific dwarves for protection/meat-shielding?

allegedly it does 4x as much damage. not sure if that's true in the new versions though.

You can train a whole range of animals now? That's great.

Well, you can in Dig Dwarfier (and probably Dig Deeper), too, but the only available option in the kennel is "train war animal" and you have no control over what kind of animals are trained.

Not sure what the problem is related to control.  The kennel will randomly choose an available animal, but put it on repeat and all available animals are trained in a relatively short period of time.  Is there a specific reason not to train a war animal from a species that has the option available?  They can still breed.

Only that you might want them as hunting animals instead, or possibly want them to shy away from combat (not having all your war grizzly bear females slaughtered in a single goblin siege for example)
