Alternatively, don't break into a house in the middle of the night, and instead conduct a day time raid. Maybe with a bit of time after knocking before smashing the door in.
They knock with the battering ram.

They did shoot a corgi. A corgi that was chained up.
I'd side with the SWAT team on the tactical decisions, mainly because I don't know what info they had.

Still, this is kinda messed up. More so that I saw the title, and thought of a SWAT raid going very well, everyone scared shitless and cooperating, and then a little lap-dog walks up to one of the SWAT people. He mutters "Goddamn stoner dogs," punts the dog through a massive window, and his buddy blasts the dog in mid-air. The words "HIGH SCORE!!!" are spoken by none other than the Almighty, and both SWAT members receive a place in Chuck Norris Valhalla.

I'm really not sure where that came from.

Honestly, I disagree with knocking.  If you're a SWAT guy breaking into a suspected drug dealer's house, are you going to knock and wait for him to open the door?  You know he saw the van pull in, and you have to get the drop on him or people will die.  You could hear the pitbull barking in an "I'm going to eat you" fashion as soon as they opened the door.

I get the feeling this is going to turn into a "BUT LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF WE KNOW AFTER THE FACT THAT MAKES THESE GUYS OUT OF LINE" war like the Iraq Reporters thread.

I liked 1:30, when the SWAT guy kicked the unarmed guy who was lying on the ground. And 2:15 when the SWAT guy says "leave the dog alone", after they already shot the dog.

But yeah, sick shit. I sort of want to know what qualifies as a "small amount" of pot, but is still enough to have the cops bust down your door guns a-blazing, just out of curiosity. Or what the cops thought was going on when they raided that house. Or...actually, there's very little information provided to contextualize the video. It's just sorta "HEY GUIZE CHECK WAT TEH SWAT DID".

Actually, the dog sounds like it's just barking. After spending some time with dogs you get highly fine-tuned to how they bark in different situations. Although the door suddenly being smashed open might have scared it a fair bit. Regardless, I agree with you.

SWAT team breaks into home, fires seven rounds at family's pit bull and corgi (?!) as a seven-year-old looks on.

OK, shooting a barking pitbull during a raid I can understand. Whoever shot the Corgi, though, is a retard. Who on earth would judge a corgi as a threat? They are like the goofiest dogs ever.

Yeah, that's kinda the point with these videos. When SWAT guys show up, it's because we think we need to fuck shit up. If we're wrong, it's bad. But it isn't these guys' fault so much--we're making the best guesses we can, with the most certain information we can get. Watch/read one of those stories where you "know" that the serial murderer/rapist/clown is this guy, but the cops can't get a warrant because they don't have enough evidence. These situations do happen. And then situations like this happen. Basically, we just need perfect info about everything, without invading people's privacy. We need to be God.

I think he means "we feel we need to fuck shit up" as in, a collectively all of us. We as a nation have SWAT teams at all because we feel we may need to fuck shit up to enforce the law at some point.

When I was little we lived in a really rough area. One morning I woke to the sound of breaking glass and shouts of "this is the police". I ran to my parents room to find my Dad just waking up. Later a police officer, with a sledge hammer, was coming up the stairs but my Dad told him to stop, on account of there being children up here, and he stopped. Later they did search upstairs but not with weapons in hand.

The funny thing, which I heard later, was that they smashed the window on the front door then hit the door so hard the key got bent in the lock. When my Mum tried to let them in she couldn't, they freaked out thinking she was trying to hide something. They ended up being let in through the kitchen window.

It turns out someone must not have liked our family much and had told the police there were drugs in the house. They found nothing illegal and ended up paying for all the damages. On the whole though they were pretty cool, they didn't destroy our furniture, they listened to what my parents had to say and were reasonable to my Dad's requests not to scare us children more than necessary. Completely unlike the video in the OP save for the initial heavy handedness trying to get in. This was a long time ago now, they'd of just knocked the door down these days.

edit to add something else funny; their faces when they opened the cupboard holding my Dad's airsoft/bb-gun collection.

Why the hell do you send a SWAT team after a single drug dealer in the first place? Wouldn't it make more sense to pick him up when he goes outside the house, and then send in normal cops (with bulletproof vests, just in case)? I thought that SWAT is only called in when it's clear that normal cops can't handle something. If not, what are detectives for, writing parking tickets? SWAT is going to cause a lot of damage wherever you send them, it's just their training.

Their training is to arrest people with minimal damage, actually. Nabbing people with arrest warrants for certain crimes is kinda what they do. The guy might be just one drug dealer, but it only takes one drug dealer with a shotgun next to the door to turn the arrest into a national tragedy, as was the case in Alberta few years ago.

Detectives are for investigating things, incidentally, not for arresting people.

I still don't see why they couldn't have just ambushed the two adults when they leave the house and arrested them outside where they can't possibly get the jump on the cops, and then searched the house.

Anyway, if I was leading a SWAT team to arrest one guy in a house, I would've surrounded the house, and then used a megaphone to tell him to come out. If he didn't do it within a reasonable timeframe (2 minutes, not 2 seconds like they did), I'd launch some tear gas through the windows, and if he still doesn't get out *then* I'd send officers in (first one carrying a tactical shield). Safer for both the cops and the arrestee.

I think I've mentioned before that the police raided the house next door (at 4 in the morning too. Which seems logical to me, anyway). They did in fact turn out to be drug dealers but the police spent something like a year and a half observing the house, as did the Colombian secret police (note that I leave my curtains open when I'm getting changed. I can't think of any way they could have seen in, but still. Eurgh).

Just like to bring that up whenever I have the chance. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SORT OF THING.

BOW BEFORE ME.

Anyway, on topic, if you know there's kids in the house, why the fuck would you shoot the family dog? I agree with Aqizzar, they're SWAT officers. Outfitted to deal with people wielding guns, outfitted to go into life threatening situations. The least of their worries should be a dog, and it's going to cause some serious trauma for the kids. I would be totally distraught if the police shot my dog, and my little brother would probably just break down.

It's moronic.

I still don't see why they couldn't have just ambushed the two adults when they leave the house and arrested them outside where they can't possibly get the jump on the cops, and then searched the house.

Safer for both the cops and the arrestee.

EDIT: Presumably they were aware there were kids in the house. I think (I don't know) that tear gas is too dangerous, especially for younger kids, to risk that. And yeah, well trained officers would have less chance of harming the kids.

Not a dog, though, apparently.

Well, if they actually gave the guy a chance to surrender, they most likely wouldn't have to use tear gas. If he refused, well, a little tear gas can't be all that dangerous.
