The irony of busting down a door and shooting the dog in front of the kids before charging the parent with child endangerment is just overwhelming.

In the middle of the night. Hell, it'd take me longer than that to get to the door. Did they even check if there was a kid in the house? What if the kid had surprised one of them and he'd shot him? Really...

Oh, and by the by, police in Britain killed a man and got away with it. America isn't the only country, but still; that video just shows really shitty police training.

One of coworkers was raided by the SWAT team.  They were looking for a known drug dealer.  Who lived across the street.  Smashed down every door in the house, knocked over all the furniture, broke a table, and y'know scared everybody shitless.  The neighbors in question came out to wave at the cops before tearing off down the street at 100mph.

The commissioner figured out that they'd screwed up within an hour.  The city agreed to blank-check repayment of all "damages".  Naturally, the family declared every scratch and dent in the house to be the fault of the SWAT team, and are using their blank check to get a massive steel door for the front.  So everyone wins.

 The way I see it, a SWAT team is there to enter dangerous situations. They need to be somewhat rough and quick about how they do things, because their job is to enter dangerous situations. So yeah, smashing shit up isn't something to get riled up about to the SWAT team. Shooting a dog is more subjective, but again they have to assume there are dangerous people within the house and they can't bother with a dog when there is a gunman behind a door waiting to take them out.

 I AM behind you in criticizing whoever organized the raid in the first place. They need to be absolutely sure that they have the right place and have enough evidence to justify a raid. They know that they are in control of a force made to raid dangerous situations and that problems arise when you send such a force to an innocent persons house.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't particularly have a problem with the smashing shit up part.  That's what the SWAT team is for, when there's known justification to go Hell bent for leather to enforce the law.  I was just relating an anecdote to the situation, and the good part is that the city took full responsibility for the mistake.

As for the shooting the dog, now I'll be the first to acknowledge that the kind of people who deal drugs overlap pretty strongly with ownership of pitbulls and rottweilers, precisely to ward off attack.  But these guys are wearing full-body kevlar and shit.  If that dog is less than knee high, just kick it aside or have a guy hold it down and move on.

 And from what I know from the SWAT games, SWAT teams do carry nonlethal weapons to get innocents out of the way when they get uppity. Stuff like taser guns and pepper spray, which could probably mess a dog up. Although I don't know of long-term health problems caused by those weapons. A muzzle they could carry for taking down dogs would be handy.

I'd side with the SWAT team on the tactical decisions, mainly because I don't know what info they had.

Still, this is kinda messed up. More so that I saw the title, and thought of a SWAT raid going very well, everyone scared shitless and cooperating, and then a little lap-dog walks up to one of the SWAT people. He mutters "Goddamn stoner dogs," punts the dog through a massive window, and his buddy blasts the dog in mid-air. The words "HIGH SCORE!!!" are spoken by none other than the Almighty, and both SWAT members receive a place in Chuck Norris Valhalla.

I'm really not sure where that came from.
