Greece is having an economic crisis, I bet you could buy one of their tiny islands, and then you could be a member of the EU and get aid shipments.

Yeah, but then you'd have to adopt the Euro and gas would be like 15 dollars a gallon.

It's a small island, we can afford to Go Green.  We'll para-sail everywhere.  But I'm totally on board with an island in Europe.  I can enter my band Aqizzar (with their new hit single, Aqizzar) in Eurovision.  I'll We'll steal the show.

You don't even need gas. You live on an island you can skateboard around, and if you need to hit up the mainland, you have a pirate boat.

It was getting a little heavy in here.  Maybe it still is, and that was certainly the original point of the thread.  But honestly, talking about police brutality gets so dreary.

I have found The Location - Psathoura, and unihabited island about one-mile-square, just a few dozen miles from the Greek mainland (and right next to the main ferry lanes), in the middle of the Aegean Sea.  Pretty swanky, eh?  I'm going to need seven (six plus me) stout settlers, two picks, two axes, several barrels of rum, several barrels of prepared olm spleens, about thirty logs, and two cats.  And probably like ten million dollars.  Twenty five of you are free to join come autumn.

Job outlook is whenever we feel like building something, and the taxation is nonexistent.  Technically, everyone owns everything unless you call dibs on something.  Later on, we'll establish a currency system with top-down price controls, but if you make something really cool to sell you'll get to slide on payment.

I don't see anything that could possibly go wrong.

If they bother to capture you instead of killing you then the resulting trial will spell your doom.

It would be the perfect place to establish our new economic system.  Once we demonstrate it's efficacy right under Greece's nose, maybe they'll adopt it too, and rescue themselves from their own economic owes.  Money is useless and ownership pointless, everyone just do stuff all day, and eat and drink whatever you want and sleep wherever you fall!
