40d: Underground Pool Not Triggering Tower-caps?

So, I embarked on a spot with an underground pool, and I found it. However, because the pool was exposed on the surface, I'm not getting any tower-caps. What must I do to get my wood-shrooms? Is there some utility out there?

Well, yeah, I kinda noticed that I am at present unable to grow tower-caps.

But really, how do I fix this?

try diverting the water into a different, underground, section and then drain it?

Yea, if you got an exposed underground pool, and didn't get a notification about "You've found an underground lake" or something of the sort, Tower Caps won't grow. With magma forges you could tweak it to fix it, but I don't think underground pools ever had a similar cheat developed. You might be able to dig around the pool for a while and trigger the announcement, though.

You're screwed. Tower Caps won't show unless you dig into an unexposed water source, river or pool.

How is the HFS supposed to help when there's only one underground pool on the entire map?

if you're lucky you have an underground river, elsewise, nothing to be done.

There was a utility that let you change tiles. You might be able to use that to cover over the pond with unrevealed tiles, set the pond to unrevealed, then dig back in. No promises, I never tried, and I don't even know if the utility exists outside my imaginination.

Probably the fact that the OP is playing in 40d, not 31.x, and does not have caverns to play with.

I had a pre-exposed EMPTY underground pool on my map once. I distinctly remember having a tower-cap farm on that map. There was no underriver.
