How often is rent assessed?

Having trouble finding the answer to this question in the DF wiki.

Is rent assessed monthly?  Once per season?  Once per year?

I think they pay each time they sleep in there.. not sure though.

No, he's asking when it is charged to the dwarf.

Not that it matters that much right this second... The dwarves just sleep wherever they feel like, from what I've seen. ::)

Assessed instantly but charged when tax collector does his rounds (though in new version could be different)  and that happens every season or so.

I'm pretty sure that's what he meant too, but "assess" can mean either:
