Help with bucket brigade
« on: May 04, 2010, 06:49:53 am »

I've dug out a 9x9 room and then dug channels in the room with a ramp to access the bottom. I designated it as a pit/pond zone and expected my dwarfs to carry buckets with water to dump there in order to make farmable land. But they don't even glare at the buckets. What am I doing wrong? :-\

for a large scale pond you need two 9x9 rooms one above the other: on the room above dig channels on a checkerboard pattern and designate each hole as a pond zone, then the dwarves will fill the rom below with water

A checkerboard pattern might not work the way you're expecting - diagonally connected floors are unsupported, so a true checkerboard pattern will result in a cave-in. Something like these might work a bit better:

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

2 things:

1) ensure you've got a water source zone designated. Dwarves need to know where to get the water from to bring in buckets.

2) Make lots of little pond zones, so more dwarves are tasked to bring water simultaneously.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.
