Fuck you, I don't know trigonometry.  Yeah, the computer draws a little line for you, but it's not always long enough.

Besides, a few minutes ago I was doing the torpedo tutorial again for the twentieth time, and a torpedo fired at a steamer at about 100 degrees (i.e. nearly side-on) from 700m missed by half the length of the ship.  There's no excuse for that.  I swear the computer is going out of it's way to make stuff miss, to "simulate" historically inaccurate guidance.

August 3rd. 1939

I'm back in Koingsberg after our first "patrol". If it can even be called that... We got called off from our grid space and were direrected to investigate the port of Hela. I also hear that the ports of Danzig and Gotenhafen were spyed on. I'm hoping this isn't going where I think it is. Germany doesn't need another war so soon.

Might not matter for me anyway. Thanks to our "Skilled" navigator and an inattentive helmsman our boat was nearly wrecked in our OWN port. Our chief engineer MJ and the crew on base are rushing to get the thing seaworthy again but apparently the pressure hull is split in a few places and one of the dive planes is ruined. They guess it will be a few months...

I guess it's time for some rest then.

August 23rd, 1939

It's been so busy with the repairs and all that's been happening around here. I've barely had any time to even read my older entry's. Apparently we just signed a non agression act with the soviets. I don't personally buy it. They were on the side of Britan and france in the last war and should something else happen I don't doubt they'd do the same again.

Maybe thats a good thing. And I was wrong earlyer.

September 1st, 1939

I hate being right. Today the Luftwaffe attacked Kraków, Łódź, and Warsaw. And shortly after the transit depot at Westerplatte was fired on by the Battleship Schleswig-Holstein. Apparently that was the result of the recon gathering last month.

Now we're at war with Poland. This is gonna get messy I think.

September 2nd, 1939

The British and French are demanding the attack on Poland stop. Not to menton Mobilizing. This is going to turn into full on war very soon. I'm guessing that it wont be done in time for me to not have another patrol to do.

September 4th, 1939

Britain and France have declared a final ultimatum. We are now officially at war with them both, along with New Zealand and Newfoundland. And the RAF have attacked one of our fleets in the Heligoland Bight. It doesn't sound like much damage was done but this is still worrying.

October 5th, 1939

I lost this thing with all the moving around. Things have escalated. We've sunk some cargo, an aircraft carrier... Apparently  a cruse ship. And lost a U-boat to destroyers. There's no time to do anything here now. Too much repairs and reports going through now.

October 29th, 1939

A few days ago U-47 sunk HMS Royal Oak, one of the Tommie's battleships. All well and good but that XO of ours has been asking a lot of questions since. I wonder if he was supposed to have been on U-47 or something.

November 2nd, 1939

Just got word that our boat is repaired, and ready to go. We're being transfered to Keil to better reach British shipping, I won't have time to write before we go so I'm doing it now before I go to bed. Well I guess we're back in business. Hopefully without more navigating accidents.

Warming the bench over the first three months of the war because we scraped the keel open just getting off the dock is... I'll just say it's a little silly.  Would it be rude of me to suggest restarting?  Or at least rewinding time and saying the damage was superficial?

And yeah, why do they all say 1943?

Yeah the first impact was, second? No we rammed into the dock at ahead flank. If I didn't order the Emergency back command we might of died right there.
