Quick Avatar Request
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:57:33 pm »

Hey, image editors,

I have a quick request. I need the white background in my current avatar to be transparent.

I would do it myself, but I lack the proper programs to do so.

You mean on one of these computers at my college's computer commons?

I'd rather avoid installing software onto computers that don't belong to me.

Just add an alpha channel to the layer, select the stuff you want to transparentize, and cut.

I saved is as a gif instead of png, as I have heard that some web browsers do not properly support transparent png images.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. Now Sigma can stare at people and not have an out of place background behind him.

Some web browsers as in what, something from 1995?
Seriously.  If your browser doesn't support flipping ALPHA CHANNELS IN PORTABLE NETWORK GRAPHIC IMAGES, you need to get with this century.
Firefox even supports animation in PNG, something which no (I think) other browser can.

Chrome does.
I'm watching your avatar animate right now.

His avatar is a .gif
I think Chrome does anyways, though.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.
Only in Dwarf Fortress...

Ah, no one has trouble with alpha channels any more? Excellent! Not that it matters, that image was like 16 colors total, anyway.
