End of Summer, and Autumn!
3 LimestoneNot much of note happened for the rest of the Summer. We sorted out jobs for the newcomers, the diggers are still digging, and Zon created a masterful mechanism. We'll have to find a place for it.
18 LimestoneWork continues, but alcohol runs low and the fort's essentials still aren't dug out. The dwarves in Zealrelics agreed to send a caravan to trade with us this season, so Zon's been spending her time making crafts of rock. Except when she's been getting cuddly with Biff, that is!
14 SandstoneThe first of the bedrooms are ready. Ye gods, they're comfortable! We'll all be pleased to be sleeping away from the farms from now on.
19 SandstoneStill no sign of the caravan. We eagerly await the booze they'll bring.
22 SandstoneCarl shouted that he'd seen some people moving towards us from a ways away. We all ran out to see, thinking it was the merchants, but it was just a few migrants. The current situation meant their welcome wasn't quite as warm as I'd usually hope.

Sure, they don't trade properly, but they brought a few barrels of drink! It was off their animals and into our collective gullet before they even reached the depot! And to think, I was almost ready to visit the well to survive!
We gave them a few mechanisms later. I wonder if they'll actually take them.
19 TimberAt last! The caravan is here! We managed to strip the guards of some of their steel - Carl and Oglokoog will appreciate the stuff better than they will.
They only brought two barrels of beer. Two barrels? That wouldn't even last a human a week! I had a bit of a tantrum and told the liaison that he'd better bring more booze next time, or there'd be unspecified consequences! We bought all of their plump helmets, anyway, though, and Retro's stopped mining to focus on turning them into delicious drink.
22 TimberRetro let me have first dibs on the wine! I was touched, and we drank together and told stories. But why do I stop and write when there's more to be had?

Current State of the Fort:Retro works the still with great finesse. The farm was temporarily McDoc's office, too; he's being moved into a proper office now, and he's focusing his efforts on his medical and bookkeeping responsibilites. The area on the left is going to become a food stockpile/kitchen/brewery. Farming workshops and millstones will go where the beds are, and seed stockpiles will go closer to the actual farms.
Carved, just needs smoothing and furnishing. A few tables keep people from complaining for the time being, and the cages give them something nice to look at.
The standard bedroom will be 4 tiles, enough room for a cabinet, a bed, a chest and a lever (yes, levers for all!). The lever will allow me to more or less arbitrarily decide how valuable a room is without worrying about its size. Nobles who need extra furniture? Well, we don't have to worry about that for now.
The well is a pretty nice feature, so I made it a little town square. Above it is the hospital-to-be, where McDoc can be seen practising surgery on a training dummy. When we get time, the whole thing'll be smoothed, and when the engravers get more skilled they'll decorate the place.

- set up temporary furnaces to smelt metals; not sure if the magma's too far away right now; might just smelt metal as it's needed and use wood for fuel, until the magma pump stack's in place
- Build the Pillars of Equality - several gigantic stone columns that surround the map. Each one should have a different internal feature and a different external stone colour.
- Build a magma pillar (possibly one of the Pillars of Equality), that spurts magma from various holes on its sides
- Build a gigantic, 3D pair of weighing scales out of solid gold
