That's what I mean. The bullets could be fragile enough so that they break if removed, but strong enough to resist breaking immediately. If it was steam powered, we could make a machine-gun, which could prove deadly when we improve the spell itself. Also, bolt rifles sound pretty cool.

I guess we can enchant the PAINGUN to be more accurate, but IDK

I get that much, but what do we actually achieve by linking the pain to a tangible projectile? Unless the projectile lodging in the wound is some way to prolong the effect, as opposed to just delivering it initially.

Also, we should look into refining our PAINGUN, maybe making it better-looking?
Let's give it flippers and a beak. Then it can be the PAINGUIN.

And also the PUNGUN.

I say we do more scientific science... experiment with things for new discoveries and level ups! We shall out-science those so-called 'scientists' at the institute!

We are a gentlemanne, so pistols should be reserved for dueling.

We should further improve the steam engine. It currently consumes a lot of coal and produces a lot of black smoke. This is suspicious and can be traced back to us if we are not careful.

To this end, we should set our minds towards steam and etheric sciences, such that:
We need a spell that allows us to polymorph a living creature halfway into another (for example, a frog into a frogman or a man into a manfrog). As part of any experiment, we have to carry it out first, then burn said frogman into ash, before we can know whether it will work or not.

We need to reduce the consumption of coal by our engine by making it more efficient. This should reduce two things: Our need to purchase coal from the outside world (and arouse suspicion) and our spewing of black smoke into the atmosphere (also arousing suspicion).

Mayhap a contraption to capture said smoke for a useful purpose? A cistern, for example - by passing the smoke through water we should be able to produce good quantities of carbonic acid and be rid of the telltale black plume...

As things stand, I fear we shall need to be prepared to dismantle the steam pump in haste if we hear tell of another inspection from the institute - it is not the most subtle of inventions.

If we can get that magically heated stone spell working, smoke won't be a problem, so all we need to improve the pump is frogman ash... somehow.

Frogmen are a myth! Such silly things are completely unscientific. We should, instead, try to replicate the effect with a simple mixture of wood ash and phosphorous.

Oh dammit
When I said phosphorous
I meant
Phlogiston
I always get those two mixed up.

Maybe. Your Tome of Alchemy informs you that Phlogiston can (in theory) be extracted from Phlogisticated Air by various means. It is not something you have ever tried.

So... I guess we should try to Phlogisticate our way to victory! :D

I guess we should attempt to extract some of this Phlogiston by somehow taking it from wood/oil, I hope.
