You consider electrifying the fence around your house.
You stop considering this because your grasp on Physics is too low to work with the Elektrik.

You retire to your lab where you spend several hours flipping through your Tome of Guidelines. You would really like to figure out why your pain pistol requires a human wielder (and thus cannot be automated), but your Tome of Guidelines yields no clues. However, you think you can see amidst the absence of clues the shape of what the clues should look like. You have some ideas for experiments that could give insight into the matter; designing and executing these experiments would take about 8 days, give or take a day or two, depending on your luck.

It is 30 days since you returned home. It is afternoon.

Let's do the experiments.

Experiments are the very foundation of science! We must do it!

Let's do the experiments.
Do them in the woods, maybe in the shack containing the pump. No science anywhere near that device.

The device is in the woods already; well away from everything else.

Think abaut how the fireball works. What happens if you replace the flamable component with somehting else, such as coal, stearin, whale oil, that nearly explosive thing you make from horsetail spores, or gunpowder.

Also, investicate if a magic fire could power a steam engine withoute needing a huge coal supply.

Test that first one from a very long way off, but apart from that, agreed.

yes.

Also, even further away, try to make a mechanism of positive feedback like you used for the gun, but instead of using the energy, it stores it up and rerproduces it, quicly geting millions of times more energy than ever occurs naturaly, wich can then be used manyaly with any spell you want to... This mihght ake some time and experinetion to get working, but shuld be VERY worth it.
Also, it mgith be good to make some kind of triger on the end of a long stick, and still get it "manual" so magic works.

Isn't that infinite energy loop exactly the thing we don't want to do, so we don't accidentally bring about armageddon?

But an infinite amount of energy would kill us no matter how far away we are! It doesn't count as showing those fools if we aren't around to laugh maniacally in a dignified manner.

Yeah. We can't do science if we're dead.

Anyway, I vote that we name our magical gun "Powerful Affliction Implement that Neutralizes Garish Unyielding Nonscientists."
