I play it on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10).  The hit from running through WINE isn't too bad for me, I still manage 70 fps with 40-some dwarves, assuming there are no elves trying to pack up their goods.

Hi!

I can't really contribute any interesting information, since I am on Windows XP myself.

However, the comparison between the various Windows versions might be interesting as well, especially since it seems that Vista users have had some problems with setting up their directories (I vaguely remember some threads about not finding the save files).

Would it be possible to make this a sticky? The results are actually even more interesting than I expected.

The OP could report himself and ask if the mods would sticky it, if they think its has merit enough for it?

Window 7 32-bit, and Ubuntu Linux 64-bit, a couple of releases ago. I played it on linux before the initial linux DF release with wine, and it worked spectacularly well for me.

Regarding Vista and directory issues:
EASILY solved by not using the godforsaken Program Files that you're never supposed to put stuff in manually anyway.

Bump to keep statistics going.

Interestingly that the poll here closely reflects the indie humble bundle statistics :

Another Windows 7 64-bit user here, and I run it on my XP laptop. The laptop slows on larger forts but less so my other machine. Just recently I was running forts on a 3x3 map with the FPS cap at 1000 and I got around 900FPS on embark and once I had 30 or so dwarves it would dip to 600FPS occasionally. It will be interesting to see how the coming merge will change things, I wonder if I'll get even more FPS.

Windows 7 64 here, too. I have a dual boot setup for Linux, but I don't game when I'm in Linux. I just explore stuff and compile things in Gentoo. Makes me feel empowered. Then I come back to Windows to play games and actually do some paying work. (Mostly games. Getting poorer.)

Linux.
All supporting tools like Stonesense (for screenshots) work with WINE as well (and after all they use the windows version memory addresses), and the FPS/RAM hit is mostly noticeable on worldgen...oh and there's some keyboard bug that affects me once in a while, but it's playable at least!
