Super lame. You could probably win a fair use defense, but then you'd have to, y'know, defend in a court of law. Which would probably not be worth it, unless you can get the ACLU or EFF or somebody involved.

I just think it's hilarious that Garfield lawyers of all people are accusing others of leeching off of creative works... How many decades have they lived off the fat of suing other people in the name of Holy Jim Davis?

Anyway, this isn't even derived from Garfield, it's derived from Garfield Minus Garfield, which is definitely parody.

Ehhhh I am less on their side in this case... since all they did is took Garfield comic strips and organized them and SOMETIMES removed characters from them.

They really didn't create anything themselves... didn't change words around, didn't alter scenes, didn't even do commentary... (or wait... they did create a title generator...)

Even if it was Parody, it is pretty much riding directly on their backs way past I think the parody law should protect.

The Lawyers are still being jerks, but ehhh... in court I see it their way.

Well, it is not hosted in USA so DMCA is fairly toothless (except for app which is hosted by google which has to react to those things) - unless they get some local agency to do the fighting for them.

Right now, waiting for Google to react to DMCA appeal. After that, we shall see.

That's the thing, they didn't take Garfield comic strips, they took Garfield comic panels and reorganized them to completely change the nature of the strip. It's not a reprinting of old Garfield strips, it's a modification and reinterpretation of them. The central conceit would work well with many other comics, I think, and that's what Infinite Garfield Minus Garfield has created; the conceit.
