Eh, Cerej, how much predefined backstory, in pages, you ideally need?
Im not a big fan of writing up something right away, as it usually conflicts with GM a lot.
It would be much more conventional to just bounce a few things, basic, with GM in real time, over IRC or something, than just writing few pages owrth of backstory and information and then scrapping it because it conflicts with GM.

As a note on backstory, does is matter which one of the different planes/worlds we come from?

At minimum I need a paragraph about who your character is, and why s/he's gone to Thornvine Forest.  Feel free to actually give your character a starting quest.  I can't promise the first adventure will be about it, or even the second.  But it gives me ideas that fit your character (and anyone else's) better than throwing adventure hooks until one sticks.

The ideal level is probably a page, with most of the emphasis on who your character is.  I've fallen into the trap of writing mostly "what he's done" backgrounds, and they've never actually been helpful, to me as a player.

If you want to avoid background conflicts, I've got the Hamachi server running whenever I'm on the computer, and Hamachi has (basic) chat functionality.  Or, I'm also on Skype frequently, so we could exchange contact information for that.  There's also two guidelines that should prevent any trouble.
1: Don't put your background in previously established places without talking with me.  Otherwise some details might have to be tweaked.
2: Your character has not come from, and has not been to, any kingdoms that have lasted for hundreds of years in peace and prosperity.

As long as you follow those two guidelines, the burden of avoiding background conflicts is on me.  And I'll share a secret.  The 2E Abyss had paid writers working to fill out information on it.  Some of the 666 layers didn't even have a sentence describing them.  It's not going to be hard fitting your character's background into my setting.

Nice to see another interested player.  If you're interested in coming from Malebranche or Thornvine Forest it'll work more smoothly if we talk about it.  Same if you want to come from Cagazan because of the name. (Since I still haven't retyped what Cagazan actually is.  Sorry.)

Otherwise, not so much.  There's more blank spaces on the map than I'd be able to fill in.

Ok here are my Character sheets, I just uploaded it to mediafire, to save me the hassle of converting them.

And a real description and background (still under construction but much better now. Will hopefully finish it Sunday):

And looks and manerism:

Looked it up, there is a Raised By Dwarves background. Either makes Dungeoneering or Endurance a class skill, or grants a +2 bonus to one of them.

There's also a monastic background, but I forget the associated skills. Probably History and something else.

The kitchenette mold free, you move on to the pantry. it's nasty in there. The bacon is grazing on the lettuce. The ham is having an illicit affair with the prime rib, The potatoes see all, know all. A rat in boxer shorts smoking a foul smelling cigar is banging on a cabinet shouting about rent money.

I'll go with that. Endurance seems to fit her background better.

At least one of the characters I'm contemplating would be Dragonborn, so I have to ask... what would you think of Dragonborn with a tail? Tail-less lizardfolk make me sad.  :(

I've got eight legs and a spider for a butt. I don't think that a tail will be any problem in comparison.

So long as you're not expecting any gameplay bonuses from it, you could have six arms and a fish face.

That's not a claim to make lightly with me. The thought occurred to me to play a mirelurk.

4e dissasociates flavour from mechanics. You can describe your character and powers literally however you feel like, so long as you use established mechanics in combat.

Before the Artificer class came out i ran a Quickling Artificer, since Quicklings didn't have PC stats, i used the Goblin stats and the Wizard class, and merely changed the flavour text of each of his abilities (so Scorching Burst became Firebomb). Mechanically he was a Goblin Wizard, but i described him as a Quickling Artificer.

These questions raise grave concerns.  How could Wizards make default Dragonborn tail-less?  What kind of DM would raise a fuss over changing that?  These questions have scoured my soul, and I've found no answers.  I'll have to call off the game and retire to a life of monastic seclusion until I know the Truth.  :P

Seriously though, tails are cool with me.  And I honestly did think they were standard.

Virex, looks good.  I'll be sending you a PM with a couple questions.  Nothing you need to change, just a few things I'd like clarifications on.
