More setting information is available. Thornvine Forest is the plane you'll meet each other on, and the other entries are places of interest on the plane.
Thornvine Forest
There are four important locations written on your map of this plane. The forest itself, a reasonably safe path between two portals, the new Cagazan outpost being built around the nearest portal, and the most unpleasant town you've had the misfortune of visiting, called The Muddy Hole.
The forest itself is hostile to life, surely the results of some magical contamination. The air is chill and uncomfortably dry, the only moisture is locked in the soil and plants. Of the many hundreds of plant species, you've been warned roughly a third are toxic and another third are actively predatory. From your own observations, you guess the last third is restricted to a wide variety of grass, thistles, and the thorny vines which the plane was named after. The forest's edges, if they exist, have never been mapped. A few extremely costly expeditions were made when the plane was discovered, but nothing but empty, moldering ruins were found.
You find it hard to believe anyone would willingly enter this place for anything less than urgent business, let alone settle here.
The Portal Trail
The trade route through this plane is nothing more than an overgrown, winding trail from one portal to the next. The forest continually encroaches on it, and so each caravan must cut and burn their way through the path. But merchants come through often enough that the forest never completely reclaims it. While the forest itself is a danger, bandits make no attacks along this trail. Not because the bandits can't survive here, you've seen enough evidence to the contrary, but because thieves know better than to stir the hornet's nest in their own backyard.
The Cagazan Outpost
It was probably a few days ago that the Cagazan soldier and laborers entered the forest. In that time they've created a clearing around the portal, and they've built a wooden palisade for defense from the creatures of the forest. A few wooden buildings have been made to store equipment. At the moment the outpost looks about as miserable as The Muddy Hole, but in time the resources of the Cagazan empire will establish a secure foothold in Thornvine.
The Muddy Hole
Your home for the past weeks, The Muddy Hole is the most honestly named village you've ever come across. It's a town far off the beaten path, overgrown with the forest, built on top of an undead filled pit, and protected by an old palisade. If it weren't for the inhabitants, you'd say the town was abandoned for years, which is exactly why the village is in such disrepair. The Muddy Hole is a safe house for a thieves' guild when they need it, and home to a more permanent population who maintain the village and don't ask questions of sudden visitors.
I was thinking one of these: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Driders_%284e_Race%29
And I don't need too many benefits. I mostly want to play an unusual race in unusual circumstances, not because I want a heap of benefits. I'm not a munchkin. The benefits would be tailored to represent her background, even if they aren't the best combination.
Yeah. Something very much like that drider is doable. I'm probably going to cut a few things to make it fit the setting and published races better, though.
What I'd like to cut is the following, let me know if any of these features were why you wanted the race. Spydric language is gone, for one. You can pick either Deep Speech or Elven, and that will become the language of Drow in the setting. Drow don't have a Fey Origin, so that's gone too*. Exotic weapon proficiencies are right out. Racial preference for weapons is usually modeled with race specific feats in 4E, so we'll create one or two of those instead**.
*Fey Origin will probably get removed from Eladrin as well. There isn't exactly a Feywild for them to come from.
**This last change is more of a stealth buff, since the racial weapon feats are very good in heroic.
I'm sure I've left some questions unanswered. If you have an unposted question or a posted but unanswered question please let me know, although today won't have the fastest responses.
