I blame a lot of VN's fall on stuff bleeding out from thread to thread. For example, if one was to start ragging on me for something completely unrelated to Israel in this thread. Before long, one has to read every thread to get what's happening and everything goes to chaos. That an VN thinking of itself as something separate from the rest of the forum.

Be that as it may, the guy did make an account a couple days ago, and has every day since made a thread about what he expressly believes to be controversial topics solely to generate "debate".  That wouldn't appear to be a good trend on any forum.

Deterrence, you make it sound like aiding Israel like we are now is... the only way? the best deterrent? acceptable as it is now?

If Israel starts to brandish their nukes, you definitely know they need to be put down like Iraq, but in this case they do actually have the 'WMD'...  They are not in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty after all...  And you make the case yourself, these bastards will use their nuclear tech to spite everyone when things go to hell.

And yea, I know just dropping all aid isn't going to help.  A better way to go about it is:  "You do/stop that, or else 'this' will get dropped."  And just keep on dropping till compliance...

I chose "Other".  You asked for an explanation.  My one-word answer would be "Necessary".

The Israeli description was "mowing the grass".  That in itself is an admission that the war isn't going to end anytime soon and that neither side is in a position to either fight a definitive engagement or negotiate a lasting peace.

Pretentious?  "Mowing the grass" is downright quotidian.
Foolhardy?  As opposed to letting the terrorists build up their forces, capability, and underground supply lines?
Ingenious?  It's a strategy of attrition.

So we're left with "Necessary".

Working your way up the ladder of controversial subjects, I see.

I'd say he's shot right to the topmost rung.

The problem with the idea of a conditional scale back is
A) Israel has a right to exist
      -From a personal moral standpoint
      -From the surprisingly large US Pro-Israel lobby
      -From most of the US population
B) It'd be a bluff
     -What happens if Israel says okay?
