FB's tracked-everywhere chemical WMD.
So much this. Just had my entire military melt 5 mins after they killed a forgotten beast, which spat out clouds of boiling extract.

Fortunately, it acted so fast, they had no time to pass it on.

An ambush!  Curse them!

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

You never know when you might need a berserk dwarf to set loose somewhere.

Embark -> Cave found -> No visible beasties -> Dead troglodytes and mole rats slowly fill my units screen -> Suddenly, bronze colossus -> watch my dwarves die of thirst trying to combat the thing

All my sieges in the new version had had pathfinding bugs and just sat at the edge of the map before leaving, so when another siege showed up I just unpaused the game and kept playing.  This one wasn't bugged.  I noticed this when more than 30 axegoblins riding particularly nasty cavern creatures ran through my poorly-defended entrance and slaughtered my entire fort.
