Complete Lack Of Immigrants Forever

So, I made a fortress. Dug in, didn't do anything, wore a hat, crushed a miner with a cave-in
First immigration wave, 4 dwarves. Also, the only caravan I've received was an elven one.
Another one came a while later, 7 dwarves.

And now 4 years later I'm still only getting dirty hippies. And not one migration wave has came since the 2nd one. I have made something like 680000 more wealth since then.

Everyone is happy, only 2 deaths so far. And yet, nobody is coming over to visit wonderful Tangledpaddles.

Why don't they love Tangledpaddles?

I figured you could always damn a river by channeling out it out all the way into Hell.

My guess is that they're dead. You basically embarked from an extinct civ.

At least now you can have one of those inbred dwarven cultist fortress bent on the sole purpose of making more dorfs and drowning elves in their own blood. We all know those, and we all love those, now don't we?

I'd have to substitute water with blood in it thought, because blood doesn't roll that way yet. Oh well.

Also, I think the other miner blames the broker and book-keeper for his friend's death by cave-in. Only reason I can think of for them hating each other.

Anyways, water with elf blood in it. Drown elves in it.

Drop a toddler down 10 z-levels, where you have Forgotten Beast trapped. Y'know. Awesome stuff.

I've done this intentionally before. Make the dwarven entity utterly pathetic and watch them burn after the first few years of world gen, then start a fortress and begin reestablishing yourselves. It would be nice if Toady would give us the ability to abandon and the fortress remain a city of the civilization, becoming the mountain homes, in this case, for future fortresses, so we can go about building a new world order.

I'm in a similar situation with my current fortress. Extinct local dwarf civ. :'( As much as I like having a small manageable group, I would love to get a few more dwarves now instead of waiting 12 years for the dorflings to grow up, is there any way to cheat somewhat and add in a few additional artificial migrants? Test-tube dwarves ahoy~

Seems to be somewhat common in 2010; this was quite rare in 40d.

Somewhat related... I've seen extinct civs in 40d come back before. The elves got wiped off the face of the earth, or so I thought. What had happened is that all their "towns" got destroyed, but the survivors were created as migrant waves in world gen. Because Elves are immortal and they suffer no attrition while wondering the wilderness, they can come back as soon as you go into advent mode.

I watched an elf city ruin repopulate while wondering around in Advent mode.

Then you can have elf traders again in DF mode. I think if you establish a fortress near the ruins of an old Dwarf civ site and abandon then go into advent mode, your fortresses population will create a migrant party to wonder the world screen and possible establish a mother dwarf civ by settling the old ruins.

Might be crazy enough to work.

It's a bit too crazy to work ... yet.  But what's not crazy is that in 40d at least, founding a last-dwarves-in-the-world fortress would cause the dwarf civ to come back as you say, so if you abandoned and founded a second fortress, you'd get immigrant waves and caravans.
