The entire point of having a first officer is that they take over when the Captain is gone. It makes no sense to send both the Captain and First Officer on the same mission away from the ship. However, I am merely an Ensign, just my thoughts on the matter."

While we are traveling, Para will spend his days trying to woo the Princess, and continue his small arms training.

  Captain's Log, 2421.10.27 2300 hours.
    We have completed the first part of King Lorin's plan, and the King, his daughter and four servants are aboard the Swiftwing now, as expected, both by Confederation and any Tyrilian agents that might be watching, His Royalty have survived long enough to be an important decoy. Tyrilians know that the crown must be retrieved, and expected us to lead them to its hiding place, we'll do no such thing. While the Swiftwing leads those Tyrilians in a circular wild-goose chase, three of my officer, Lieutenant J.g. Flintus, Lieutenant J.g. Faden and Ensign Nimitz will accompany the Crown Princess to Sigma 756, the icy world on which King Lorin have hid the sacred crown 21 years ago. If everything goes all right, the shuttle crew shall retrieve the crown, rendzvous with Swiftwing and allow us to continue our mission. I hope King Lorin could live long enough to see his plan come to a successful end.

  "You are still unsure abour Cila."The old King caught the hint in Batista's voice, while they were discussing about the plan, with the Captain sitted beside his bed.
  Batista wanted to say something reassureing, but that wasn't how he truly feels, and he couldn't lie to the King.
  "Even if the Crown proves she have the Power, there's no guarantee she can rule an planet."
  "True. That's no certainty. It's still the strength and quality of the person on the throne in the end. but don't underestimate the Power, I know it sounds like black magic, but it does help the one who possess it transcent the frailties we're all born with. One must have absolute faith to use it, Batista. Mine faltered...perhaps I caused my own downfall."He shruged under the blanket."But my faith was rekindled when I know you were coming to take us back. I sensed the current of time that carried us apart were bringing us back together. It took me this long to comprehend that faith springs not just from gods...but from fellowmen as well. We must rely upon others, and be worthy of reliance ourselves. Cila will have to learn this if she is to lead, I think she will."
  Batista wondered in silence---Was this wisdom, or foolish faith? His combadge beeped and he touched it, and it was Faden with a troubled voice in the other side.
  "Captain, you are tiring out my patient. Your Highness, if you'd rather rest..."
  "On the contrary, Doctor, his visit has been refreshing, like the chats we used to have years ago...back home."
  "Okay for now, but you need some sleep, your Highness. And Captain..."
  "Dr. Faden."King Lorin said."Does your prescription includes a spot for a glass of brandy?"
  How could you say no to a royal patient? Faden thought, when Captain Batista followed up. "I heard Nirur bought a couple bottles of those back aboard SS23, just call him to bring a bottle, and four glasses, you two are invited."
  "Aye sir. Just this one time okay?"
  So the talk continued with the addition of Nirur, Faden, and a bottle of Saurian Brandy. Batista poured the brandy and handed the glass to the King and his officers. "To the future of Cril." He said as he raised his glass. They clinked their glass and drank.(Batista: Crew Command +2 Faden: Counseling +2 Nirur Torir: Counseling +2)

  As Batista took his leave of the King, another combadge call summoned him to the bridge.
  "Captain, you may want to know this."Para reported as Batista stepped off the lift onto the bridge,"We are being shadowed by a Tyrilian Medium Destroyer."
  "What's the situation?"Batista asked.
  "No hostile action on their part yet. They are just hovering there, almost out of range."Para said as he pointed to a sensor blip on his screen, as Nimitz continued."I tried some minor maneuvers, they are not following us exactly to the letter, but everytime we lose them, they would turn up again in a couple minutes."
  "Any communications?"
  "None received."
  "I believe they have nothing to say."Batista said as he sinked into his seat."Keep an eye on them, I don't want to lose them."
  So, Tyrilians have taken the bait, doing exactly what the crew of Swiftwing hoped they would do...Will have to stay sharp, Tyrilians are rarely so cooperative.

  Faden checked the monitor in her office as she handed the job to her crew. Beside the headache caused by alcohol, the information on the screen also troubled her. The strain caused by extended talking and alcohol consumption probably haden't made any difference, but the King of Covenant is slipping slowly closer to death. She felt annoyed and helpless, partially resulted from the pain caused by alcohol consumption, mainly because of the fact that she can't do anything to prevent the King's demise.
  Just the time she was about to leave, Cila entered the Medibay, and looked around like a nervous sparrow.
  "May I help you, my young lady?"Faden said.
  "Dr. Faden."She blurted."I want to learn how to give myself Holulin injections."
  A good change, since I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight anyway, Faden thought. Then she decided to teach Cila about some general medical knowledge first. In the next few hours, well into the night shift aboard the ship, Faden taught about Cila about her disease, and was surprised at how little Cila knows about her own disease, and the fact that Cila mush have had an equlevant of university master's degree, taught entirely by the King back on Olan.
  They spent large amount of time like this in the days left before departure, and Faden's admiration of both the King and his daughter grew.(+3 Alien Medicine, +3 First Aid, +3 Counseling.)
  Beside teaching Cila about medicine, Faden's off-hour activity also included a lot of talk with Nimitz.[4+1(Fast talk)+1([8-1(Counseling)]Synergy)]The two of them become good friends, and Nimitz shared Faden's concern about the King, and the rumor about Para's involvement with Princess.(+2 Fast Talk, +2 Counseling)(Good friend: Nimitz: +1 when working with Nimitz together on something.)
  Things seemed to have been going around normally until the day before the departure, on that day, the event, which Faden has feared since the King came aboard the ship, have happened.

  [10+1(Stellar Cartography)]Nimitz is very successful in preplotting a course, as cranky and loopy as it is, takes them within 1 week range of Sigma 756 in 3 weeks at normal speed. This could surely confuse any Tyrilians that might be following them.(+3 Stellar Cartography +2 Hyperlight Flight)In his free time, he used the Holodeck to refamiliarize his skill with small crafts.[5]And was pretty successful since he started his career as a shuttle pilot anyway.(+4 Starship Maneuvering as per Adv.)[9+2(Charm)+Stat.bonus(Adv.)-2([2-1(Conversation)]synergy)]He also spent quite a good amount of time with Faden too, discussing their mission, and had quite a bit of personal chat about each other's life, Faden is one of Nimitz's good friend now, and now Nimitz knew a lot about Faden's home world, and shared Faden's concern about the King and his daughter, and the rumor about Para's romantic exploit.(+3 Charm +1 Conversation)(Good friend: Faden: +1 when working with Faden together on something.)

  Nirur spent quite some time checking the shuttles both on duty and off duty.[8]and turned out both shuttle are in pretty good working order. He have chosen the first shuttle, CNS-15322/1 Wispy as the shuttle the shuttle crew shall take to Sigma 756, for it's slightly less flight-hours.
  He also spent some time on Holodeck in his free time to train himself on emergency repair, with simulated scenarios.[5]That was some good training, And the holodeck worked correctly. In association with Emergency Repair training, he fired up a couple of combat scenario too.[1]But they turned out to be too complex for his skill to such level, that he never made it beyond 2 minutes. Maybe he have chosen the wrong program...
  A couple more drills has been held too, under his direction and supervision. [7]Now it seemed like Nirur's crew have finally started to lose their greenness.(Operations/Engineering crew are now Slightly Green)[6]He had quite some chat with his crew after each drill too.(Total Exp: +2 Power management +2 Power system repair +3 Damage control +5 Emergency repair +2 Structral Engineer +3 Morale management +2 Counseling +2 Persuading +2 Small Arms)

  In these 3 weeks, Flintus decided to train his crew, and himself, to get ready for whatever might happen.[2]It can't be called a success though. Not too much of a improvement was observed.
  He also tried to maintain the morale of the crew despite the unsuccessful training.[7]And was successful in this.(Operations/Security: Good Morale)(+4 Dep.Cmd. +1 to all combat skill.)

  Para have kept an eye on the Tyrilian ship in these three weeks.[10-1(Sensor Use)]And was very successful. The Tyrilian ship is indeed shadowing them, and he determined that the sensor range of the Tyrilian ship is slightly shorter than them.
  In his free time, he started to read up on Crilite culture, with an emphasis on romantic and dating.[7]And it turned out that, as another result from similiar biological and cultural evolution routes, the Crilites doesn't have much special when compared to Humans in terms of dating and romantics. He started his compaign on Princess Cila after that.

  It doesn't leave too much time to do fitness after all that though.

  Since there's nothing much more to be done, Sxtan continued on his Xenobiology research.[5]And was successful in his quest for knowledge.(+7 Xenobiology)

  Batista started his own small compaign on keeping his crew's morale up, and have had more talk with Cila.[4+2(Crew Commanding)] He did make it to keep the crew's morale up despite the impending action. And heard quite a couple rumor, something is definitely happening between Ensign Para and Princess Cila. Troubled, he asked Para about that, and the only thing he got back is a "No intervention on my personal life" look on Para's face. "As long your affair doesn't interfere with our mission, it's ok."Batista said.
  He has also done more practise with guns.[7]And was fairly successful.(+5 Firearms)His plan for more holodeck space skirmishes have to be scrapped though, as there's already an enemy ship shadowing his.

  "Captain, may I speak with you personally?"After finishing up, Faden dragged Batista to the side, outside Cila's earshot, full of sorrow."The King's survived this time, but he is having a heart failure in progress, there's nothing much I can do now...if we are lucky, he might survive for another 48 hours."
  "And the mission must go on."Batista responded in a deep, low tone, while looking at Cila, who is now sobbing beside the King.
  The next few hours was devoted to final preparation of the mission. Batista went over the mission again and again in his mind, to seek weak points and anticipate any surprises.
  Nirur, Flintus and Nimitz checked the shuttle for a final time. Fully refueled, and stocked with enough food and water for 3 week, much-needed medical supply and survival equipments. A self-diagnostic revealed all system ready and functional, and a manual check confirmed that, while Faden checked her medical gear again, not wanting any mistakes.
  Cila spent the final moments with her father together, and finally parted ways right before the shuttle launch, then had a long hug with Para, who is waiting outside, with concern written all over his face.

  "Report, Para."Batista ordered.
  "The Tyrilian ship is just out of range, they cannot detect the shuttle launch now."Para responded, in a slightly troubled voice.
  "Ok."Batista said as he pushed the communication button on his seat."Swiftwing to Wispy. Everything ready?"
  "Ready when you are, Captain."Flintus responded, with a hint of excitement.
  "Take care of Princess..."Para added, his feeling obvious.
  "We will."Faden responded over the comm.
  "Ok. Ladies and gentleman, you have green light for launch, may luck favor the bold. Swiftwing Out."Batista, in a deep voice, ordered.
  A couple second later, a visibly disturbed Para reported."Shuttle away, sir."
  14 hours later, in the night, King Lorin, the 19th monarch in the dynasty of Cril, passed away in his sleep, with Commander Batista and four royal servants at his side. The King's plan for bringing peace to his world once and for all is progressing without him now.(Batista +1 Crew Command)

  Humanoid race hailing from Planet Cril, resembles human, slightly weaker constitution, and have white hair. Confederation Associate.
  Supplies the ore Crilium which is used as energy source in the entire sector. Ravaged by civil war for more than 20 years tracing back before the Third War, the situation is about to take a turn.
  Planet Cril's political and religious leader, King of Covenant of Cril, Lorin has been exiled to Planet Olan for 21 years.

  A vital energy source of many planets in local space near Cril, much safer than Uranium and other similiar isotopes and require much less technology than fusion to produce power.
  Although Crilium did occur natually on every planets and asteroids in this section of space, only Cril, after which the ore is named after, have a concentration high enough to be mined with acceptable cost-effectiveness. And there's nigh-infinite amount of Crilite in the crust of Cril, which is enough to provide this and nearby sectors with energy for thousands of years to come at current rate.

  Humanoid race with an appearance that resembles human, but more bony and muscular, especially on the face. Regional Power, Quite aggressive. One of the powers that is now essentially surronded by CS as the latter expands, As CS spent most of its resource on Zerkalian Front it's more than willing to take some bite off the CS from the back, but does not dare an open war since they are too weak when compared with CS.
  Tyrilians ritually execute their prisoner after capture, in a particularly gory and painful way.

  As it's closer to Earth, the first contact between CS and Tyrilian Empire is pretty early, in the 2250s, which is immediately followed by a series of skirmishes between the two powers.
  Now it's surronded by Confederation as the latter expands, laying between the core and frontier worlds.
  It's technology level is 2370s-equivalent when compared to the Confederation, which is slightly inferior.
  The relation between it and CS has never been good. And because of Confederation's non-invasive nature, and the war between Confederation and Zerkalians, they have been trying to cut a piece out of CS since the Second War.
  Located in the opposite side of the Zerkalian Front, This regional power have been proven to be a thorn on the back for the Confederation.

  The military ships of Tyrilian Empire is typically light-to-medium destroyer sized, using exclusively lasers as their weaponery as observed, though a heavy-cruiser sized ship has been observed not long ago.
  Their technology is around 2370s-equivalent for Confederation, which is a bit outdated for newer Confederation ships, but still somewhat more advanced than his own Swan-class light cruiser.
  Tyrilian ships usually patrols around in single ship, or form a small taskforce of up to 5 ships.
  A typical Tyrilian ship looks like a triangle, with HL engine attached to port and starboard aft, and bridge on the dorsal fore of the ship.
  The common weakness among these ships are their low HL speed. The maximum speed ever observed is Factor 6.5, while they typically cruise at factor 5.
  Their laser armament are roughly class 4-8 in output when catagueized, though more powerful weapons is possible.
  Typical tactics Tyrilians use usually involves a lot of strafing as their laser are mostly forward-mounted. Ramming is also a tactic favored by Tyrilian commanders if their ship is damaged enough, or they are overpowered enough.

  Located near the Confederation-Tyrilian border, this sector is the home of StarStation 23 and Planet Cril, origin of Crilite civilization. Also have 8 habitable planets, 3 minor planetary colonies and 2 minor civilization, Olani and Elloni.
  This sector has been under constant threat from Tyrilian Empire since the first contact with them, but is still weakly-defended when compared to those alongside Confederation-Zerkalian border because of the constant threat of Zerkalians and its spatial position.
  At factor 6, Olan is 3 days away from SS23, Sigma 756 is 3 weeks away from Olan, Cril is 2 week 5 day away from Olan, 1 week away from Sigma 756, Ellon III is 2 week 3 day away from Olan, 9 day away from Sigma 756, 11 day away from Cril.

  Humanoid race native to Planet Olan, much shorter when compared to human, and is characterized by their darker skin and slightly diffenent facial feature. Confederation Associate.
  Planet Olan is very hot for a Class-M Terrestrial planet, bordering on Class-L Desert because of its relatively closeness to its sun, its atmosphere is also thinner than Earth. As the result Olani population is pretty sparse, barely reaching 5 million as of 2415.
  This planet does not have any natural resources treasured by any space-faring civilization, nor of any strategic importance. Thus of little intrest to any space-faring civilization, such a planet makes for excellent dwelling for exiled royalties like those of Planet Cril.
  The King of Covenant of Cril and his family has been exiled here with Confederation assistance. and has been here for 21 years.

  Humanoid race native to Planet Ellon III, shorter than human, and the skin color ranges from pink to deep green, very welcoming to strangers from all places. Confederation Associate.
  Ellon III is pretty underdeveloped by Confederation standard, the cosy lifestyle of Elloni people in one of the reason behind that.
  The culture of Elloni people calls for friendliness to all people, regardless of origin. Total strangers are hailed as neighbours, the hospitality of the Elloni people is famous throughout the Confederation.
  As a result, Immigration policy of the planet is pretty lax, and there's a stable Crilite population on the planet because of the frequent ore trade between the two planets.

  King of Covenant of Cril, Lorin has been exiled onto Planet Olan since 21 years ago, with his still-young daughter(Princess Cila, aged 4 at that time), his wife(Queen Miri), and his four servant(Personal manservant Eari and his wife, royal cook Mossay. Also Stable Master, Aldel and Chief of the households, Nil)
  Queen Miri died a few years later by disease, while others managed to live through the hardness of all these years.
  The King is pretty old now, the hardship on the living didn't make the situation any better.
  King Lorin have passed away aboard CNS-15322 Swiftwing, at 2421.11.18 21:28 Earth Standard Time.

  A stone house of typical Olani construction located on the south hemisphere of the planet in a rural region, the King, his family and entourage has been living there for the entire duration of their exile.
  Enemy presense on this planet is very low, at most a Tyrilian agent with a few paid Olani informers according to report, it used to be much more though, their number reduced as the time passes.
  Also the Swiftwing's presence here should have been a surprise for Tyrilian Empire, for the secrecy nature of the mission.
  An encrypted message was sent to Tyrilian Empire after the away team reached Olan. The presence of Swiftwing is no secret now.
  Another message was sent near the end of Turn 10.

  As the political and religious symbol of planet Cril, this very important item is not with the King at this time. The King have hidden it away on a remote planet at the beginning of his exile at Planet Sigma 756. Tyrilians will most likely want to steal this item.
  The Power of Times granted by the Crown is an ESP-like phenomenon activated by a certain type of brainwave that was present in the brain of certain members of royal family of Cril, and the crystal on the Crown is sensitive to such waves, the person possessing just the right brain wave would clear it. This effect has been duplicated in computer simulations. After all, the most likely explanation for the story was an intervention by a much more advanced alien race, even when compared to Confederation.

  Princess Cila shall rule as Queen of Covenant of Cril when she returns to Cril, but not without first retriving the Crown of the Covenant from Planet Sigma 756. Go to Sigma 756 to meet Shal'Qah, a local avian tribe leader in Shal'a mountain range, for help, he knows the location of the crown. King Lorin shall leave too, to confuse Tyrilians.

  Crilite protocols are largely similiar to humans as they are very similiar in both their biological and social evolution path. One thing of note is that Crilites consider the focus of attention very important.

  A bit similiar to diabetes to Humans before it's treated, but more deadly. Needs a periodic injection of holulin in order to survive. And if left untreated, the result will be similiar to carbon monoxide poisoning, in which the oxygen-carrying capability of blood cell will be gradually lost, which will result in suffocation and death. This disease will worsen if under stress, careful medical treatment is absolutely necessary.

Background: Nirur is a fairly recent graduate from fleet school. When he was a child, his role model was Frederick, a teenager who lived next door. Ever since Frederick became a fleet officer, Nirur had dreamed of his own command.

After graduating, he was dismayed that his girth prevented him from passing the physical tests. Background: Having grown up in a lower-middle class family star ship command was not a likely option for Flint when he was growing up but like many other children he was raised on stories of the exploits of the heroes of Confederation Navy and he quickly set his sights. Flint doesn't often talk about how he managed to get into the academy or the inquiry that was ordered relating to it, but regardless there was not enough evidence to press charges, unfortunately Flint still carries this blemish on his report. Life in the academy was easy enough Flint had trained his body to peak athleticism and was a naturally talented shooter. The academic side provided more of a challenge but Flint worked hard and passed with an impressive record showing excellent talent in his martial skills and was placed on security.
Flint has served on one ship and his relatively lower class upbringing saw him get along very well with the other crew members. Of course the questionable way he was able to get into the academy in the first place saw tensions between him and his officers however nothing too drastic ever came to pass. And excellent repour with crew members as well as a heroic performance in one of only two instances of space combat saw Flint promoted and he was sent back to Earth ready for his new posting.

Launched from Utopia Planitia Staryard, Mars at 2325.11 and entered service at 2326.3
The Swiftwing is one of the first(and sadly, also one of the last) ship of Swan-class Light cruiser.
Equipped with top-of-the-line technology, facility and equipment at it's prime, Swan-class formed a large part of the effective defence force throughout the last century, and performed well in both the Second and Third War, and as a result, many ship of this class has been lost in battle.
Originally designed with a service lifespan of 80 years, Swan-class performed beyond all expections, and is certfied of an additional lifespan of 20 years(Actually mainly because of the Third War).
Now this class of ship is meeting its end even with its extended lifespan, and began to show all sort of problem with aging.

This ship is relatively small for a light cruiser, only slightly larger most heavy destroyer nowadays, but still well-armored when compared to destroyers even with it's age.
It's called Swan-class for a reason, for its long, wide and downswept HL engine pylon connecting elongated main hull and long HL engine.
It's also capable of minimal atmospheric operation, but not landing except in absolute emergency because of the downswept and fixed HL engine pylon, and lack of landing strut. An emergency landing can be a premature end of the ship's service life.

The newest weaponery aboard the ship are the twelve General Weaponery GWHEP5-MK2P HEPPC Cannon mounted on port and starboard of the ship, replaced its predecessor in the 2400 refit, you checked your Combat Starship Simulator, and seems like the information in the simulator is pretty accurate, you chilled in your spine.
The oldest is the two Confederated Technology HEP8-MK3A-3 Triple mount HEPPC Array, which is already mounted since the ship's entrance into the service in 2326.
You also notes that the power requirement that listed on the operation manual is the power requirement to fire one of the multiple cannon mounted on the same point.
Also noted is that the 2 main cannon mount's power conduit is directly connected to the reactor core itself, possibly field-modified some years before, that allows more power on the main cannon mount as long as reactor's up, but will cause complications if the core is down, this also incresed the risk of damage in case of an overload feedback from the cannon.
The intergrity of the Weaponery Powergrid is pretty good despite its age, at least when compared to other systems of the ship.

The ship itself in combat efficiency is comparable to a newer medium destroyer, with strength in Armor, Shield and Point-defense effectiveness, and weakness in Maneuverabilty and Speed when compared to one of such ship. However this ship cannot hope to handle a newer light cruiser on itself, at least not in its current state of maintainance, the last crew should be reassigned to ground duty for their disregard on maintainance and bad attitute toward the next crew.

Lieutenant J.g. Sxtan's Ki'scri'caa Brown Tea is poisonous by causing severe diarrhea to anyone other than himself, but as long as others don't take the wrong cup there should be no problem.
Me, Lieutenant J.g. Faden's feather might cause a few crew a minor allergic reaction, mainly minimal sneezing, none of the senior officer is allergic to my feather though.
There might still be undiscovered allergic and pathological reactions, but that would need time to discover.

Cephid 17 is a binary system, 1205.2 lightyears away from Earth which is at the border between Core and Frontier systems of the Confederation of star.
Swiftwing should be able to reach the destination within a half year if everything went all right on a cruise speed factor of 6.0 and stay on the +1.0 Hyperspace highway.
Nothing much is interesting in the way though, as this is a pretty busy spacelane and everything around has been througthoutly studied.

A Tr'cic is a powerful predator which resembles an insectoid velociraptor with a barbed tail. It's native to the frontier world that Sxtan was born on.

The majority of Denedani are polytheistic, and the most popular god is Eki the Dancer, the trickster god.
There are seventy-two factions on Irir, each with their own government. Faden hails from a medium-sized representative monarchy (People get to vote for advisers, but the monarch has the final word) on the southern continent, called Ahierir.
