Shit, sorry. I was busy yesterday. Posting now.

Even though the Swiftwing is holding position in Olan's orbit, I ask to stay at my post. You never know what could happen when you're on a mission as critical as this. I will listen to what Faden and Nirur have to say about Crilites and Tyrilians. I wanna know these species before I have to deal with them.

default with a light machine gun rather than the carbine

Make sure to issue to my men that combat as of now is unlikely but to be alert and define that we are not to unholster weapons unless the situation strictly calls for it. And tell them that protecting king is our number one priority.

Also remind them to treat the king with respect but subvertly tell them not to go overboard with that.

Lots of story, partially rewritten from the source material, will give credit for that at the end.
Mostly a character build/storyline turn.

  "Okay guys, this is what is going to happen, me, Sxtan, Flintus and three of his best man are going down to meet the king first. Nimitz, Para, Faden and Nirur will remain on the ship, as you're more useful here." Seeing acknowledgement from his officers' eyes, Batista continued:"Faden, be ready to beam down in case something goes wrong. And somebody please check the temperature down there, Sxtan might need some special clothes to keep him warm."
  "Sir, sensor reports local surface air temperature around 34 degree Celsius, should be no problem for Sxtan with his current heating garment."Para reported as he checked the sensor, while Sxtan nodded in affirmation.
  "And sir...what about the diplomacy protocols?"Nirur, suddently remembering something, asked.
  "As for protocols, lieutenant, I don't really have time to explain every intrincancy of their traditions and etuiquette, just treat him like you would treat the major representative from your race, and you shoulnd't offend him. Don't act like I will, I'm his friend, you're not. Oh, and ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS, look them in the eyes when you speak, it's a major disrespect not to do so." Batista described with a hint of enjoyment. "Ok. Sxtan and Flintus follow me, the rest of you stay on your station unless ordered otherwise, Faden, standby for beam down at moment's notice and make your crew familiarize themself with Crilite physiology, and Para, go to yellow alert and notify me of anything out of usual, dismissed."
  "What about the weapons?"Flintus asked Batista as they headed to the turbolift after a moment.
  "Standard loadout for you and your three guards plus additions at your discretion, also give me one of those carbines, let Sxtan choose whatever he want."Batista answered as they entered the lift."And be sure to set them on stun."

  "Okay people this mission is very important. Although combat is unlikely, I still expect you to remain alert and guard our captain and the King well."Flintus said to his security guards in a orderly tone, three of them, handpicked by himself.
  "Aye sir."The leading guard responded."And the loadout?"
  "Standard. And you."He pointed at one of them."I also want to have some light fire support, replace your carbine with a light machine gun."
  "Aye sir."
  Remembering something, Flintus added:"And...Be aware that it's the King of a Confederation Associate, and only a Confederation Associate, that we are protecting today. So show the appropriate respect."
  "Understood."
  "Ok...Now grab your gear and report to Teleporter room when ready, dismissed."
  After the security briefing Flintus headed for armory for some equipment pick-up. He switched to standard loadout too, with the addition of 2 Confederated Explosive M5-Mk2 chemical explosive proximity mines. Also he didn't forget his captain's request for a carbine too.
  Then he went to his own quarter, and picked up his own trusty survival knife which have saved his life in more than one occations, and headed for Teleporter room.

  After being granted to choose his equipments at own will, he returned to his quarter and retrieved his Ki'scri'kaa Quad Blade. And after assessing the situation, he decided to only take two of four blades and hidden them in the scabbards which is almost perfectly fitted under one of his chitin carapaces.(Hidden against cursory search, can be drawn almost immediately)Then he headed for Teleporter room.

  "Is the teleporter ready crewman?"Batista asked one of Nirur's crew manning the teleporter console as he stepped on the teleporter pad.
  "Ready sir, position set to 100 meter south-east of King's dweeling, ground level. The King has been notified about our arrival a couple minute earlier." The crewman responded, a bit nervous.
  "Good work, crewman, energize."
  After a few seconds of teleportation process, the away team is on the surface of Planet Olan, 100 meters from King Lorin's dwelling.

  "Hey, do you know that? When dealing with Crilites, don't idly tap the console in their presence. They consider it to be a way of saying that you're tired of a guest's presence."Nirur said to Para and Nimitz as he readed through the library entry about the Crilite cultures.
  "Ah."Para was a bit annoyed."Better not distract me now, I'm checking the long range sensor now."
  "And I'm making orbital corrections..It needs engine power to maintain on the same point above the place."Nimitz also responded.
  "Ok."Nirur responded, then continued to dig in on the entry.
  After a couple minute, when everything seemed to be settling down, Para intercepted an encrypted transmission from the surface which is sent toward Tyrilian space.
  "I don't like it, let's tell Captain about this."Nirur said as he tried to decrypt the message using the computer."Obviously our away team has been discovered."
  "Ok...Away team is calling us already."Nimitz responded, obviously don't like the turn of event.
  "Ok Ensign."Para could hear pain from Captain's voice."Tell Faden to beam down to our position...and fast."

  "He is not going to make it, Captain." Although she cannot do facial emotions much better than Sxtan, the sorrow in Faden's voice have made the point apparent.
  The King have spent the past 21 year waiting for this, and now Faden have confirmed Batista's greatest fear since he receives the mission. These are the final days of His Royalty's life, and he is going to die before he could see the reunification of his planet.
  "Can I talk to him?" Batista asked in a soft voice.
  "His Royalty is sleeping, for a while." Faden felt useless, and bobbed her head around, in a gesture similiar to shrug."What about a walk outside?"
  "Maybe, alone."
  Sxtan and Faden watched their captain go silently without a word, while Flintus and his guard standed around guarding the house from potential threats. At first the Tyrilians did keep a good-sized survillence team on Olan, but as time pass, their number dwindled as it become apparent that the King is never going to leave. Now there's only one of them, plus a couple of paid local informants.
  The atmosphere of Olan is dry, hot and thin, even when at dusk, it's not very long since they have beamed down and Batista's uniform is already soaked up with sweat. "Hell of a place to spend 21 years in." He considered his decision of convincing the King to leave 21 years ago, and the images flashed before his eyes as if just happened. Total defect does seemed unavoidable at that time, with reports of defect and retreat coming from every fronts. The king and his council have been unaware of Tyrilian's secret agenda on their farthest province until too late, and the Revolutionists were on their way to the Capital. But they never made it beyond this point, and the battle dragged on for years on end.
  Had he done right to the King by saving their life, or robbed a proud ruler his last chance to fight back? Batista couldn't have known, but that thought hardly made him feel any better.
  The heat was stifling, and Batista returned to the sanctuary of King's house.

  The architecture of Olan is well adapted to the adverse climate of the planet. All buildings are made from stones, the window was small and high up in the ceilings, and the floor themselve was a meter or so below ground level. And there were running water, in form of fountains in every room. Faden wondered whether the architects who designed the structure, which is over a hundred years old, have been psychologists while she dipped her wing tip into the rippled surface of the fountain. The sound and feeling of trickling water have made the place ten degree cooler than it really is, while Sxtan tapped around his science scanner.
  Then she and Sxtan heard tired booted click, their captain came in.
  "Feel any better?" Faden asked.
  Batista flexed his shoulder around."Nope. Just sweaty...and tired, the thin atomsphere of this place is not really for hiking around."
  "I'd say that you should feel right at home, Sxtan."Faden continued."This temperature is quite suitable for your physiology for what I've learned." She said jokingly.
  "That's mostly correct, Lieutenant."Sxtan looked at Faden over his book.
  "It should be. And Captain would you mind coming over here?" She pointed to the fountain."Dip your hand in it, that will make you feel cooler."
  "Hmm...this really hits the spot."Batista murmured as he dipped his hand in."How's the King, Lieutenant?"
  "King Lorin is old. I don't know whether he will die today, or monthes later. He isn't up to any extended space travel at all. If he stay here resting, he may continue to live for monthes, but his body just can't take the stress of traveling in space. Even if he make it back to Cril by some miracle, he is in no condition to lead great battles or make stirring speeches."
  "Isn't there anything you can do?"
  "I can't reverse old age." Faden responded helplessly.
  Batista thought about his ship. The Swiftwing is aging too, but at least she is still capable of her job. Maybe my ship is not that old after all, he thought to himself. Maybe it was a better decision for them to live here than facing potential death on Cril. At least they had hope here. And the King have lived long enough to know that the situation is improving. He comforted himself with this idea, but hardly found it comforting.
  "Captain."Sxtan said."Our objective in this mission is to return the King to his throne, to stablize the geopolitical situation on Planet Cril and local space."After a pause, he continued."But Faden's report, which we have to believe, have essentially failed our mission."
  Batista took a deep breath. "Well...What could we do about it now?"

  "We are going to save Planet Cril. That's what to do about it, Batista."The King's voice is low and shaky, but full of determination. He sat up in bed, supported by stacks of pillows. His body, withered by age, looked frail under the quilt.
  "But you can't go." Batista said gently, his voice shaking a bit.
  Lorin shook his head."I know all that, even before doctor Faden told me. You know, I haven't been outside this house for three monthes. My servants offered to carry me out, but if I can't do that myself..."He rested for a while, eye closed."...then there's no point in doing that."
  "Why didn't you tell Confederation how you feel? Why did you tell them you are ready?"
  "Because I AM ready, Batista. Someday you'll all be old, and you shall know that just because you can't do something doesn't mean you can't try them."He rested a while again."What would they have done if I tell them I'm already too old? Do you think they would have sent a starship just to be a king's escort?"
  "Sire...I'm glad that we got to see each other again...but this mission wouldn't be possible without your return."
  "Not my return...it's the monarch's return. My health, as well as the plan I'm going to tell you must be kept secret, even from Confederation and your Navy Command. Only the four of us[Flintus and his guard is outside guarding the house], and my daughter, Cila would know....you will return her to Cril...to rule in my place."[Exact plan in Informations]

  "Captain...how can you change our mission without telling Navy Command first? They will court martial us."Faden asked as she paced around the fountain.
  "All right. What do you have to add, Sxtan?"
  "Although I don't like it...I have to disagree with Faden, but not entirely. Although we did put the stake very high on this, Navy Command usually doesn't nitpick on how a mission is done as long as it's done with success."
  Faden stared at Sxtan."And disobeying direct order?"
  "We are not disobeying orders since the circumstances have...fundamentally changed since the start of the mission. I believe our chance of success will be greatly improved if we don't waste time consulting with Navy Command. With our presence and intention already known by Tyrilian, it would require swift decision and action to succeed the mission."
  Batista listened carefully. "Is that your recommendation?"
  "Yes. But before final decision, we must analyze King Lorin's plan further to look for potential weakpoints, and check our Crown Princess, Cila's readiness to rule in her father's throne."

  By the time Batista found her, the Crown Princess is tending the garden of the house.
  "This is quite impressive." Batista said as he walked through the path between rows of bushes, flowers and vines toward Cila. "Frankly...I don't think a cactus would have grown on this planet."
  "It's not that hard." Cila said. Batista noted the fact that Cila tend to avoid eye contact whenever she can, and when he looks at her when she speak, she stammers slightly.
  "You built all this irrigation system by yourself?" Batista asked.
  "No. I just designed it. My servants helped with the piping and actually built it."
  "How old were you then?"
  "Eleven, Captain."
  The way Cila addressed him have caught Batista's ears."Captain? What happened to 'Uncle Batty'? Why so formal?"
  She bowed her head a little."I...I never thought we'll meet you again...It's been so long."
  Batista stared at her. She had the same deep, dark eyes of her father. "When father and I had lessons, we'd stop and wonder where you were. We know you were reassigned to line duty, to take part in a large war."She continued."I have dreamt that you would survive and take us home again."
  "Did you mind being here, Cila?"
  "It's all I really know...I was only four when we left Cril."She said as her eyes checked around the garden for spots to tend to.
  Princess Cila was twenty-five now, but she is small and delicate, with a tentative and cautious manner like a lost fawn. Her eyes are wide and deep brown, almost dark, and constantly moving as if possessing an overwhelming curiousity on their own. Although herself seemed timid, her eyes are not, with a piercing glance that would learn all they could. And they are sad, even when she is not.
  "What did your father taught you?"
  "About our planet...Cril, our history, and how my family have ruled through times of feast and shortage, the Covenant with our people and our gods, and how...How the Dynasty has to continue..."
  "Through you."
  "I know."
  "Then you know what your father have planned?"
  "Yes." She slipped her hand into Batista's as they sit on a stone bench in a opening of the garden, stars have started to twinkle on the sky."Oh..Uncle Batista, I love my father...I...I guess I worship him. He has protected me all these years, been both my mother and father, given me his dream." She drew a breath, then spoken in a small and halting voice."But...I don't think I can do it...I don't have his strength."
  "How do you know?"
  "I can feel it...everytime he talks to me, even weak as he is now...That strength guides me, make me see what he sees, but when I was alone...I can't feel it any more. What it would be like if he is gone, when I can no longer have he lift me up again?"
  "I don't know, Cila." Batista wants to say, you do have it...you only need to see into yourself, the strength is there. But she have to discover that himself, and he refrained.
  "He taught me about history, my place in our religion, told me the feeling I should have...I don't know why...that's not enough..."
  "Do you afraid of being Queen?"
  "Yes."Cila answered very fast, almost a relief. Then she whispered."More than that...How does one learn to be a savior?"

  "These doubts are not the only concern, Captain."Faden said as she sat with Sxtan and Batista in the library of the house. "There's another problem, Cila have an incurable disease."
  "WHAT? What is that?"
  "Choriocytosis."
  "Explain."
  "Princess Cila have chronic Choriocytosis, which, in its chronic form as an inborn disease, is a bit similiar to diabetes to Humans before it's treated, but more deadly."Faden paused, gathering herself."She needs a periodic injection of holulin in order to survive. And if left untreated, the result will be similiar to carbon monoxide poisoning, in which the oxygen-carrying capability of her blood cell will be gradually lost, which will result in suffocation and death. This disease will worsen if she went under stress, which she will surely be under in this mission. Careful medical treatment is absolutely necessary."
  "Is she aware of this?"Batista asked, obviously troubled by this twist of event.
  "She is aware of this...but she thinks herself as crippled because of this. She told me she is afraid to give herself the injection, one of her servant does it. This disease can be a high mental barrier...and if she cannot handle her own disease, how is she going to guide the destiny of an entire planet?"
  Batista didn't answer this...because he knows she have the strength deep within her. But...will she ever find it?

The incresed power consumption caused by activated shield doesn't prove to be too large a problem for Nirur.(+2 Power Management)As a bonus, he also checked Tyrilians for their POW policy, and had quite a chill down his spine when he discovered that Tyrilians ritually execute their prisoner after capture, in a particularly gory and painful way.

  Humanoid race hailing from Planet Cril, resembles human, slightly weaker constitution, and have white hair. Confederation Associate.
  Supplies the ore Crilium which is used as energy source in the entire sector. Ravaged by civil war for more than 20 years tracing back before the Third War, the situation is about to take a turn.
  Planet Cril's political and religious leader, King of Covenant of Cril, Lorin has been exiled to Planet Olan for 21 years.

  A vital energy source of many planets in local space near Cril, much safer than Uranium and other similiar isotopes and require much less technology than fusion to produce power.
  Although Crilium did occur natually on every planets and asteroids in this section of space, only Cril, after which the ore is named after, have a concentration high enough to be mined with acceptable cost-effectiveness. And there's nigh-infinite amount of Crilite in the crust of Cril, which is enough to provide this and nearby sectors with energy for thousands of years to come at current rate.

  Humanoid race with an appearance that resembles human, but more bony and muscular, especially on the face. Regional Power, Quite aggressive. One of the powers that is now essentially surronded by CS as the latter expands, As CS spent most of its resource on Zerkalian Front it's more than willing to take some bite off the CS from the back, but does not dare an open war since they are too weak when compared with CS.
  Tyrilians ritually execute their prisoner after capture, in a particularly gory and painful way.

  As it's closer to Earth, the first contact between CS and Tyrilian Empire is pretty early, in the 2250s, which is immediately followed by a series of skirmishes between the two powers.
  Now it's surronded by Confederation as the latter expands, laying between the core and frontier worlds.
  It's technology level is 2370s-equivalent when compared to the Confederation, which is slightly inferior.
  The relation between it and CS has never been good. And because of Confederation's non-invasive nature, and the war between Confederation and Zerkalians, they have been trying to cut a piece out of CS since the Second War.
  Located in the opposite side of the Zerkalian Front, This regional power have been proven to be a thorn on the back for the Confederation.

  The military ships of Tyrilian Empire is typically light-to-medium destroyer sized, using exclusively lasers as their weaponery as observed, though a heavy-cruiser sized ship has been observed not long ago.
  Their technology is around 2370s-equivalent for Confederation, which is a bit outdated for newer Confederation ships, but still somewhat more advanced than his own Swan-class light cruiser.
  Tyrilian ships usually patrols around in single ship, or form a small taskforce of up to 5 ships.
  A typical Tyrilian ship looks like a triangle, with HL engine attached to port and starboard aft, and bridge on the dorsal fore of the ship.
  The common weakness among these ships are their low HL speed. The maximum speed ever observed is Factor 6.5, while they typically cruise at factor 5.
  Their laser armament are roughly class 4-8 in output when catagueized, though more powerful weapons is possible.
  Typical tactics Tyrilians use usually involves a lot of strafing as their laser are mostly forward-mounted. Ramming is also a tactic favored by Tyrilian commanders if their ship is damaged enough, or they are overpowered enough.

  Located near the Confederation-Tyrilian border, this sector is the home of StarStation 23 and Planet Cril, origin of Crilite civilization. Also have 8 habitable planets, 3 minor planetary colonies and 2 minor civilization, Olani and Elloni.
  This sector has been under constant threat from Tyrilian Empire since the first contact with them, but is still weakly-defended when compared to those alongside Confederation-Zerkalian border because of the constant threat of Zerkalians and its spatial position.

  Humanoid race native to Planet Olan, much shorter when compared to human, and is characterized by their darker skin and slightly diffenent facial feature. Confederation Associate.
  Planet Olan is very hot for a Class-M Terrestrial planet, bordering on Class-L Desert because of its relatively closeness to its sun, its atmosphere is also thinner than Earth. As the result Olani population is pretty sparse, barely reaching 5 million as of 2415.
  This planet does not have any natural resources treasured by any space-faring civilization, nor of any strategic importance. Thus of little intrest to any space-faring civilization, such a planet makes for excellent dwelling for exiled royalties like those of Planet Cril.
  The King of Covenant of Cril and his family has been exiled here with Confederation assistance. and has been here for 21 years.

  Humanoid race native to Planet Ellon III, shorter than human, and the skin color ranges from pink to deep green, very welcoming to strangers from all places. Confederation Associate.
  Ellon III is pretty underdeveloped by Confederation standard, the cosy lifestyle of Elloni people in one of the reason behind that.
  The culture of Elloni people calls for friendliness to all people, regardless of origin. Total strangers are hailed as neighbours, the hospitality of the Elloni people is famous throughout the Confederation.
  As a result, Immigration policy of the planet is pretty lax, and there's a stable Crilite population on the planet because of the frequent ore trade between the two planets.

  King of Covenant of Cril, Lorin has been exiled onto Planet Olan since 21 years ago, with his still-young daughter(Princess Cila, aged 4 at that time), his wife(Queen Miri), and his four servant(Personal manservant Eari and his wife, royal cook Mossay. Also Stable Master, Aldel and Chief of the households, Nil)
  Queen Miri died a few years later by disease, while others managed to live through the hardness of all these years.
  The King is pretty old now, the hardship on the living didn't make the situation any better.

  A stone house of typical Olani construction located on the south hemisphere of the planet in a rural region, the King, his family and entourage has been living there for the entire duration of their exile.
  Enemy presense on this planet is very low, at most a Tyrilian agent with a few paid Olani informers according to report, it used to be much more though, their number reduced as the time passes.
  Also the Swiftwing's presence here should have been a surprise for Tyrilian Empire, for the secrecy nature of the mission.
  An encrypted message was sent to Tyrilian Empire after the away team reached Olan. The presence of Swiftwing is no secret now.

  As the political and religious symbol of planet Cril, this very important item is not with the King at this time. The King have hidden it away on a remote planet at the beginning of his exile at Planet Sigma 756. Tyrilians will most likely want to steal this item.

  Princess Cila shall rule as Queen of Covenant of Cril when she returns to Cril, but not without first retriving the Crown of the Covenant from Planet Sigma 756. Go to Sigma 756 to meet Shal'Qah, a local avian tribe leader in Shal'a mountain range, for help, he knows the location of the crown. King Lorin shall leave too, to confuse Tyrilians.

  Crilite protocols are largely similiar to humans as they are very similiar in both their biological and social evolution path. One thing of note is that Crilites consider the focus of attention very important.

  A bit similiar to diabetes to Humans before it's treated, but more deadly. Needs a periodic injection of holulin in order to survive. Background: Nirur is a fairly recent graduate from fleet school. When he was a child, his role model was Frederick, a teenager who lived next door. Ever since Frederick became a fleet officer, Nirur had dreamed of his own command.

Background: Having grown up in a lower-middle class family star ship command was not a likely option for Flint when he was growing up but like many other children he was raised on stories of the exploits of the heroes of Confederation Navy and he quickly set his sights. Flint doesn't often talk about how he managed to get into the academy or the inquiry that was ordered relating to it, but regardless there was not enough evidence to press charges, unfortunately Flint still carries this blemish on his report. Life in the academy was easy enough Flint had trained his body to peak athleticism and was a naturally talented shooter. The academic side provided more of a challenge but Flint worked hard and passed with an impressive record showing excellent talent in his martial skills and was placed on security.
Flint has served on one ship and his relatively lower class upbringing saw him get along very well with the other crew members. Of course the questionable way he was able to get into the academy in the first place saw tensions between him and his officers however nothing too drastic ever came to pass. And excellent repour with crew members as well as a heroic performance in one of only two instances of space combat saw Flint promoted and he was sent back to Earth ready for his new posting.

The Swiftwing is one of the first(and sadly, also one of the last) ship of Swan-class Light cruiser.
Equipped with top-of-the-line technology, facility and equipment at it's prime, Swan-class formed a large part of the effective defence force throughout the last century, and performed well in both the Second and Third War, and as a result, many ship of this class has been lost in battle.
Originally designed with a service lifespan of 80 years, Swan-class performed beyond all expections, and is certfied of an additional lifespan of 20 years(Actually mainly because of the Third War).
Now this class of ship is meeting its end even with its extended lifespan, and began to show all sort of problem with aging.

This ship is relatively small for a light cruiser, only slightly larger most heavy destroyer nowadays, but still well-armored when compared to destroyers even with it's age.
It's called Swan-class for a reason, for its long, wide and downswept HL engine pylon connecting elongated main hull and long HL engine.
It's also capable of minimal atmospheric operation, but not landing except in absolute emergency because of the downswept and fixed HL engine pylon, and lack of landing strut. An emergency landing can be a premature end of the ship's service life.

The newest weaponery aboard the ship are the twelve General Weaponery GWHEP5-MK2P HEPPC Cannon mounted on port and starboard of the ship, replaced its predecessor in the 2400 refit, you checked your Combat Starship Simulator, and seems like the information in the simulator is pretty accurate, you chilled in your spine.
The oldest is the two Confederated Technology HEP8-MK3A-3 Triple mount HEPPC Array, which is already mounted since the ship's entrance into the service in 2326.
You also notes that the power requirement that listed on the operation manual is the power requirement to fire one of the multiple cannon mounted on the same point.
Also noted is that the 2 main cannon mount's power conduit is directly connected to the reactor core itself, possibly field-modified some years before, that allows more power on the main cannon mount as long as reactor's up, but will cause complications if the core is down, this also incresed the risk of damage in case of an overload feedback from the cannon.
The intergrity of the Weaponery Powergrid is pretty good despite its age, at least when compared to other systems of the ship.
