It is possible that someone may take a key to prevent anyone from locking a room, especially if that room is decided to be more of a neutral area.

I guess quite a few situations can be summarized as they are suspicious that someone else will take it, and use it to deny access to it's resource(s), and want to prevent that...

So really taking a key will be default,
and giving it back to someone will be up to good-willed characters.

They may also take it for its value in trading.

Good ideas everyone, but I'll be taking a break until I overcome this "illness".
I'm not sure what is wrong, but I'm having a bunch of adverse symptoms
and it's really cutting into my ability to function regularly.

I'll be doing fairly mindless stuff like watching anime and playing San Andreas.

So everything is working out well, and I have a bunch of work underway.
I'm working an yet another project at the moment, but I'll be back to Party House soon.

It turns out I have these two matching cuts in my mouth under my tongue,
and they might have been infected for a while.
Having my mouth in so much pain made it hard to sleep,
and I soon became restless, got a terrible migraine, and all sorts of nasty stuff happened.
Now everything is looking better, and I should be posting up my progress soon.

Yeah, elephant tusks do that to the underside of tongues. Lessons learnt, I guess.

Mouth Hell continues,
 but I am mostly aware.

I suppose I'll do something useful today.

I tried programming today, but I noticed I had trouble thinking, and started taking shortcuts.
I suppose I can't code until I can think clearly.

Sounds like you need a [MAGIC_BANDAID:].

I've been feeling great lately, and am so very full of ideas.

To achieve my goals, I've decided to hide out in my room
until I fully understand pointers and vectors, and can use them in practical code.

I think I have it figured out too!

I have a question:

If I have a vector of trees, and I destroy one of the trees,
what is the common way of removing its pointer from the list?

Do I search the list for a pointer to that object and delete that first?

Do I store some sort of pointer to that pointer so I can reference it for destruction?

EDIT:

Should I have a class vector and a pointer list too?
I suppose that if I have a vector of a class, I have no need for a pointer list.

Hmm.... I'm used to Java, which has garbage collection, so you'd just have to null the reference to the tree (and any other references to it or it's nodes) and the garbage collector'll free the memory.

But that doesn't help you much.

Write a method (deleteTree(*treeClass)) that traverses the tree starting from the leaves, freeing each node as it goes. after that method reurns, you can delete the pointer to the tree. freeing the tree object itself could be done inside the method, or just after it returns.

If you leave that bit out of the method, you could call it "empty()" and put it in your tree class.

Have a vector of pointers (boost::shared_ptr are safest) to the base class, that way you can store pointers to the derived classes in it.

Okay, so I'm completely better now.

I've been working on a new project for a while,
and I suppose I'll pitch up a thread for it once it works better.
