Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then youkill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
What's infinity minus one? Minus ten? Minus a thousand? Minus a million?

Infinity is still infinity.

But it's a smaller infinity.  The ultimate goal of any proper dwarf is to whittle down the infinite until it's manageable.  This endeavor has produced some familiar results: Planepacked was an attempt to model and comprehend infinity; Dwarves have learned how to use an entire tree to make the tiniest of objects and leave no remains; they build statues of flies; quantum stockpiling; even mining itself is a reflection of this drive.
Negative. That's assuming infinite is a number.

It isn't. It's a state. Infinity - 10 equals infinity.

but infinity - infinity is still undefined. the goal here is to get infinite demons killed, to see what the undefined turns out to be.

won't that be infinity - 10 = infinity - 10? if one infinite was being peck at by ten won't it be  slightly different from a normal infinite?

L'Hopital's rule tells us that while infinity and infinity may look the same, dependent upon their source equations, some things get to infinity faster.

No, that's what being infinity means; it is innumerable.  It doesn't matter if you add or subtract any amount from it, it is still innumerable.  There's no "real" infinity; it is a concept.  Think of it this way:  Assume the "edge of the universe" is a real thing, but it is an infinite distance away (which is a fallacy already; if an "edge" is an infinite distance away, the edge doesn't actually exist, but for the sake of example, assume the edge of the universe is an infinite distance away).  If you walk 10 miles toward the edge of the universe, you are not actually any closer because it is impossible to measure the distance you are from the edge (the distance doesn't exist as a finite, measurable amount).

Elementary dwarven combat theology goes like this:

If there are an infinite number of demons, then either demons are infinitely small[1], or demons are on top of each other, quantum stockpiled demons. If the former is true, then we have to find the demons[2] and then kill them with magma and water. If the latter, then we have to kill them with magma and water.

[1] On the same or lesser order of infinite.
[2] Dwarves go insane when they theorise that the demons fill every space in the universe but are intangible.

AAAAAH! Water and Magma don't work! The world of Dwarves is doomed! Doomed to eternal suffering boredom, I say! AAAAH!

Dude.  Stop takin' shit so seriously.  This is Dwarf Fortress.  We DO want to whittle down infinity.  It is our goal.  It is the goal of the game to model the universe as best it can.

Infinity is a concept.  And we will assault that concept with every masterwork steel axe we have.  For the hell of it.

It just boils down to semantics in the end. "Infinity" as a pure mathematical concept is different from everyday life 'infinity' that people use figuratively.

If you like, you can imagine Hell as a portal to the demon dimension: even the weakest of demons that come through are killing-machines compared to anything in the real world, and there's nothing to stop more of them coming through.

Pffft, axedwarves eat demons and **** awesome.

If it wasn't for the horrible game-ending CURSE OF LOW FRAMERATES then we'd all probably setup hell in our games as a Dwarven themepark where dwarven children can watch dwarven (dorf for manly) dwarves carve up demon lords while juggling elephants and brewing pigtails.

YAWN no challenge in this game at all for the Axedwarf/Grizzlybear hordes.

Build a corridor, 800 tiles long.  Fill it with spikes, ten to a square, and link them to a single lever.

This is the noble's lever.  And thus finally, he shall earn his keep.

The demons in the deep are not infinite; there's just as many as your computer could store in the save file.
