Butchering dwarves?
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:48:45 pm »

Something odd happened, though I regret I wasn't paying more attention to it.

One of my useless dwarves had claimed a workshop. He was possessed and also picked the wrong workshop (leatherworking, the useless strange mood), so I decided to doom him. After he had claimed all of the materials I forbid and reclaimed them, so everyone else hauled them back.

He eventually went berserk, and was promptly captured in a cage trap.

I then forgot about the dwarf. He apparently starved to death while being neglected in his cage trap.

There are now 3 things in my refuse stockpile:

Sarvesh Cryattics's dwarf fat (16)
Sarvesh Cryattics's skull
Sarvesh Cryattics's bone (22)

I have no idea what to make of this.  :o

I can't find any dwarf meat in my stockpiles, and I don't think my dwarves would have eaten it that fast...

Because it probably hasn't been reclaimed. Even if it was, your dwarfs wouldn't eat it because their ethics don't allow them to. You can however modify their ethics in the raw file -> objects -> entity default and changing
[ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:UNTHINKABLE]
[ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:UNTHINKABLE]

to"

[ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_OTHER:ACCEPTABLE]
[ETHIC:EAT_SAPIENT_KILL:ACCEPTABLE]

At least I think that's what to modify, correct me if I'm wrong.

Alright, I am going to guess what happened is this.

1. Your dwarf got a fell/macabre mood. One of them (I can't remember off the top of my head) entails hunting down a dwarf, butchering it, and using its components to create a craft. This can occur at a leatherworking workshop.
2. Your dwarf couldn't get the rest of the components and the mood failed.
3. All the butchered dwarf components remain usable, since the mood failed and they were in the workshop.
4. Dwarf meat!

You should be able to check your gamelog to see what type of mood they had.

...He was possessed...

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

He was possessed and went to a leatherworking workshop. He gathered up cat leather and cat bones. I didn't want such an artifact, as I prefer my artifact furniture and weapons/armor instead, so once he began work I forbid everything. After a couple seasons he went berserk, but I was prepared and had a cage trap ready for him.

The trap caught him and the cage with the dwarf inside was then hauled off to the stockpile, where I then forgot about it for a while.

Curiously the dwarf fat is in the refuse stockpile, not the food stockpile along with the mountains of other fat from other animals. Also no dwarves are touching the fat or skull.
